How long do you need to be infected for IGg bands to show up?

Does anyone know how long you have to be infected for IGG bands to show up on the lab results? I researched it on the internet, but couldn't find the answer.

It's probably a hard one to answer because it's based on each individuals immune response.

Here is what my daughter's llmd (Pediatric LLMD in CT) has written in a handout:

IgM converts to IgG in about two months UNLESS there is a persisting infection driving a persisting IgM reaction. This is the case with any infection including the Borrelia burgdorferi induced lyme disease.

I have lyme and had an IGM band.. have had it 2-3 years.

interesting, thank you! I am just asking bc I discovered I had lyme in January. Never had a bull's eye, and based on the series of events, I am almost sure I got the tick bite in October. I am just trying to solidify this assumption. My tests came back with 6 bands of IGM positive, and none on IGg. So it looks like my assumption is correct?

johnred- do you have Igg bands as well?

I recall being told (not by dr) that band 31 or 34 (have it written down - can look it up) suggests its been at least 6 months to a year. Is that one of the bands?

My daughter has had a positive Igenex IgM for 4 years now (for the most part), since we started checking.

The only time my daughter received a positive IgG, was 2 months after we stopped a combo of antibiotics due to elevated liver enzymes and some other abnormal labs. It was Nov 2011. In Dec of 2011, we ran the advanced lab culture, which came back positive. They sent us a photo of the spirochetes from her sample. A few months after we put her back on one antibiotic, amox. Then the igenex went right back to positive Igm's only.
She also has bartonella, and tested positive in the beginning for rocky mountain spotted fever IgG as well -through Quest.

Chapelle.. I read somewhere how lyme can attack your body where it can keep seeing it as a recent infection or something like that.. Somebody probably could explain it better.. A lot of people who have had it for years have the igm bands.

btw- the 83-93 band has been + on every one of her results over the years. I always feel that when I no longer see that band, she will have kicked this awful disease. Just my wishful thinking.

yes, I have read that once igm bands are gone, the infection is gone. I also read that people can have those bands for a long time. I am just more concerned about the Igg bands. I know my LLMD will answer my questions next week, I am just trying to figure this out on my own! I would think no Igg bands would mean that I indeed have a recent infection?
