Co-infections vs Lyme - Possible to be symptom free for both?

It's possible to have Lyme yet be symptomless.

Is it possible to have a co-infection and be symtomless too?

Anyone here with babesia and don't have symptoms? Tested positive for babesia duncani twice on the IFA test and literally have zero symptoms. Does anyone else have a co-infection but have no symptoms?

So you tested positive for an active coinfection? I don't know. Interesting question! But when u say u can test positive for lyme and be symptomless do u mean a positive western blot igm meaning a current and active infection as well? Bc I've never heard of this before!

This kinda breaks up into three categories. I heard that there are people who carry the Lyme bacteria and have no symptoms because of their immune system. Category two is the people who follow Dr. Jernigan's protocol since his philosophy is not to kill the Lyme but to heal the host. Category three would be people on abx / herbals that temporary produce all negative Lyme tests and have no symptoms but can still relapse later in life.

You're still in treatment for other tick-borne infections, aren't you, Cppoly?

There's another possibility - the symptoms of Babesia (in your case) could surface as the other infections are brought under control. That's how it happened for me anyway, and I've read where it happened to others that way as well.

I hope this isn't the case for you, but thought you should know about the possibility.

Well I've only tested positive for babesia duncani and Lyme. That's good to know but I hope it doesn't happen !

I heard in a radio interview (I quote this interview all the time lately for different things!) anyway, with Dr. Steven H. in CA (lyme disease 101, radio interview on youtube if you want to hear it, great info!), he makes the comment that although they don't know why that some people do get infected with lyme, but don't have any symptoms (or at least noticeable symptoms). I don't think he mentioned co-infections, but I don't know if he meant to rule them out from that statement though.

I find this interesting, b/c my son (4) has lyme, dx this Jan., and we never saw a tick on him. I understand that that is very common to not see the tick, and not have a rash either, so I know he may very well have had a tick bite this late summer; I mean we live in a subdivision called "Deerbrook".
But, sometimes I wonder if I have the infection and don't know it and passed it to him.
B/C, I did get bit by a tick at ten years old, and then that same year (maybe even same month, I just don't remember) I developed sudden onset OCD, which can be a PANS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome) reaction to a lyme infection for kids.
And, I have dark circles under my eyes since childhood, and floaters in my eyes, but other than that no symptoms. I don't have any pain or fatigue.

oh, anyway, that's just something I think about ever since I heard a person could be symptom free, even if it's not the norm.

Reading you post feels like I wrote it. Same here, have no idea how my dd 10 got lymes. Never saw tick. I too have floaters. Some anxiety, but usually just during high stress. No pain too, maybe just a little since I'm turning 50 in jan. I wonder too if I have it and passed it on to her. Her remaining symptom are intrusive thoughts maybe once a day for a minute. And comes up if someone says frank since her therapist in the beginning on tx named her thoughts frank:(. Working with an llnp that works closely with dr Steven Harris. They lecture together at conferences.

So many more insects besides ticks pass these infections though! I think it's safe to say that just about everyone has been bit by a mosquito, or flea or deer fly, horse fly, sand fly, bed bug, spider, ant, or other insect - and the ones I just named have been documented with ability to carry these diseases. I happen to think that the mosquito is the most dangerous as it can carry the most different types of infections/diseases!

And deer are no different than us in this cycle - caught in the middle. It's actually the white footed mouse that is the true vector of Lyme disease, which is why deer don't need to be around for these infections to be around.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Even if I don't have the infection, I find it intriguing that some people do have the infection and don't have symptoms. I just wonder what it is that sets it off or keeps it quiet. Makes me want to get tested myself out of curiosity. I don't have pain though so maybe not. As far as OCD, for me it's mild, and so don't think I'd start abx if I ever did test positive. My husband and I are trying to have another baby though, and if I do get pregnant I will test and do the low dose abx recommended if it showed lyme. I know it didn't have to come from me, for my son, but like you, I just wonder.


Traveler, I've heard that before about the mice and possibly other insects too. It's hard not to be frightened to tell you the truth! I feel like no place is safe! I've never been one to spray on repellants, but this year, I'm covering us in them. (Someone recommended some to me once. I'll have to look that post up again.) Hopefully there are some good ones without deet?
