So, this site has been such a wealth of info. I've learned a lot and gotten great help from many people on here. However, I try not to read too often as it sometimes depresses me. I don't feel well and so many others on here are so sick. I haven't read any success stories. So..can people post success? Is lymes 100% curable? I am starting to doubt it. Has anyone beat it completely? Would love to read your stories.

There is a lot of controversy over whether Lyme is curable or you just reach a "remission" stage. Myself, I don't know what to believe. As long as I get back to feeling better, I don't care whether I'm cured or in remission, I just want my normal life back.

There are many success stories on here. Traveler (one of the moderators) beat it using all natural herbs. Deejavu used Jernigan protocol. I read a couple other stories on here about success with Jernigan protocol (I searched Jernigan in the search engine).

The thing is... once people get better, they usually stop hanging around on forums like this... they are out living and enjoying life. I wish that for every single person on here.

Myself, I would say I am about 80% better and have only been treating for 6 months.

Like Elleon said, people get back to their lives once they get better, many going back to work to pay off bills that have accumulated while they were sick and trying to move ahead emotionally too. Coming back on here is too hard for many people, making them re-live what they went through. Others come back here to help others find they're way to getting better.

I'm pretty sure I had Lyme 30 years ago. I was very ill, couldn't go any lower than I was I don't think and a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Lyme, but I wasn't very sick. I've had a decent diet all those years and I think it was stress that brought on some symptoms, but nothing disabling. Even recently gong through some very hard times recently with my mom's decline and death didn't bring on many more symptoms, so it seems it was in remission and my body is still keeping it at bay pretty well, considering how bad I was.

How much better you get depends a great deal on your diet and how much good bacteria you consume. It should be a life time diet, not just during the infection, so your system stays strong to fight off future invaders.

There are many on here to offer you support when you're feeling defeated too, so reach out to them when you need a boost. You can get better!

As you can see verg, I'm on/off again.

It is mainly because like others have said - I consider myself in remission. I have been off of ALL herbs since January and off of all antibiotics since August (since AUGUST!!!).

I feel better then I have in years. I have dreams that I remember (some pretty wacky ones).

I feel great. It just takes time, patience, and occasionally a plethora of doctors. If you feel your protocol isn't working after 3-4 months, change it, or find another doctor.

No, Lyme disease is not 100% curable - but it can be put into remission, for some for the rest of their life. The reason no one can claim that it's actually 'curable' is because the bacteria can be found years later in differing parts of one's body - even long after there have been no symptoms.

I am still having a hard time getting a grip on this remission thing. I do totally understand it - but I still wonder if it all depends on the length of time someone has had lyme. Let's say for someone that didn't start treatment for lyme until years later, he/she would have for example, 10% of lyme bacteria in their body, but in remission. Let's say someone who started treating lyme at only 6 months after a bite would have maybe 0.5% left in their body. Has it been proven that if someone starts treatment within weeks of getting a bite that they still have lyme bacteria in their body? I just can't imagine that being the case. I am sure this is a controversy - but I am just asking has the remission issue been proven, or is it controversial? Bc after all of the things I have read, I do believe that remission is real, but I just wonder if it all depends on how long a person has had lyme. And what about kids? Does the same thing hold true for them if they are treated promptly? Any thoughts? thanks!!

Well in my research...i found many got over lymes and got over it quick. I read some hunting forums. I got my lymes on a hunting trip in northern, mn. So, I found some outdoor sites in mn and made some inquiries. Got to talking to a few other fellas and they told me how they were so sick etc. Got put on meds for a few months and bam...gone-better. I just don't get it. I only had lymes for about a month and did 6 wks of dxy and then 8wks of rocephin and I still have terrible issues.

People are all different. It depends on many thing prior to getting sick, such as diet, exercise, rest, heredity, toxin load, stress levels, etc. Those all impact how well your body can deal with the infection and treatments.

Chapelle, I believe it has to do with whether or not the Lyme bacteria - which is unlike any other bacteria, even syphilis - makes it to the brain and whether or not the bacteria from the brain can or will activate after being dormant for some length of time..


There have been many chronic Lyme patients that have had their Lyme reactivate, due to stress or other conditions that the person has lowering their immune response - but why? Is it because of a failure of the immune system or was it from the bacteria actually 'reactivating'? I don't believe we have had enough research to know for sure on a large scale.

I also have my own theories -

I would bet that there is a percentage of people with Lyme who are wrong with when they believe they actually got bitten, which is why it takes them longer to recover than expected, Or, the tick bite they found on them was actually a second tickbite, and then never knew about the first one, so when they got bitten a second time, the Lyme came out full force. This is just a hypothesis of mine.

my LLMD said everyone is different too...she said it is possible to make a full recovery, but everyone responds to treatment differently. My response to treatment seems to be dependent on the day. One day I'm fine with taking everything she has told me to take...other days I have to cut back some on the homeopathic detoxing to be able to function. My doc said that since we caught mine early....and if I respond well to treatment...it could take 4-14 months minimum for me to be cured or in remission or whatever happens...I'm a month and a half into treatment now...here's hoping the cure is closer to the four month end.

I've read a good number of success stories from people healing from chronic Lyme. The stories I read were from people healing naturally, not with long term anti-biotics. (Maybe there are stories of people who heal from anti-biotics but I haven't personally come across any.) Some people will say they are cured but will still have flare-ups, but I have read of people who say they have had no symptoms for years. I wish I would have saved all the people's stories and blog posts so I could share their stories, but I didn't, sorry :/

I have come across 3 people who had Lyme for 35-40 years and are now symptom-free. And others had Lyme for like 1 year or 8 years. I sometimes feel a little discouraged too but then I remember that there are people out there who have been living symptom-free for years and I just make myself be confident that I will also be one of those people. I do believe that Lyme disease is 100% curable. I mean, maybe a few bacteria will remain dormant but so many diseases are like that and will have no negative effects on the body. Like once you get mono I think it continues to live inside you but people are totally healthy and fell great after they get over the mono.

But still I can't help but believe Lyme is 100% curable :)

"Curable" indicates that there is no trace of it and it can't come back. We know that this isn't true, as people who have been symptom free for years can have relapses, and the bacteria can be found upon autopsy.

Remission is a much better word choice, because like several other things, the symptoms can go away completely and can be kept in the background, like mono, cancer and more - with proper care of the body.

One started treatment 8 months after symptoms started, and treated with antibiotics for 6 months, but was almost symptom free after 3-4 months. At the 6 months mark, she did go on herbal supplements.

The other used antibiotics but don't know if he was supplementing with herbs as well.

Hi tryingtobe happy,

I did low dose doxy for about 2 months then I actually started treating with an LLMD. We did doxy +ceftin for 5 weeks, then ceftin +biaxin for 3 months (?), then the last month I did biaxin and pulsed flagyl on the weekends. I was supposed to do ceftin then too...but I couldn't tolerate 3 abx at once, not from herxing - they just made me ill.

I was also doing a modified Buhner herbal protocol with an herbalist and on quite a few tinctures from an ND. A lot of the treatment overlapped, which was comforting.

fielding for girlie here but usually borrelia abx and bart abx look differnt from antimalarials for babesia ..most llmds address all 3 with babs 1st ...theoretically it can be cleared from blood stream in how long it takes body to replace all rbc ...120 days plus ...bart has a double cell wall and usually needs 2 abx at the same time to avoid resistance ...lyme needs to have 2 -3 also for cytic and l-form versions of the spirochetes ...usually tetracycline with flagyl or tinidazole for oral , i used rocephin and bee venom , babs is treated with mepron or malerone paired with zith(yellow paint not cheap) , bartonella is usually minocycline or zithromax paired with rifampin...600mg or some times more ...it can have a effect on cpn which is a common opportunistic systemic pleomorphic bacteria also....treatment duration is based on bacterial load, ,symptomology ,constitution of individual ,detox abilities and other factors ...check out dr mr site for abx recommendations

The first one used doxy and then zithro for the last month or two....(if my memory serves me well)

The second one did a version of the Marshall Protocol and was only on minocycline...
I wouldn't recommend that.
