Hi Ferretgrl,
Welcome to our community, although I'm very sorry that you have a need to be here.
Have you read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread yet? It covers so many things, it would be very helpful if you took the time to read through it if you haven't yet.
What you are experiencing is known as a herx or Jarrisch Herxheimer reaction and it shows that your body needs hlep detoxing. There is a post in the "New to Lyme?" thread that introduces members to what they should be doing to help their bodies detox.
These infections are created by bacteria(known as spirochetes) that create toxins when they die, so as you are killing more and more bacteria, more and more toxins are released into the blood stream, and eventually the body will become overwhelmed if it (your body) can't keep up with the detoxing needs. So I greatly encourage you to eat very well - no sugar, no highly processed foods, no fast foods, and to begin helping your body keep up with detoxing.
You should know though, that the testing for these infections is quite poor, so the fact that you had a negative Lyme disease test in no way means that you don't have the infection - it only means that you aren't producing antibodies to the bacteria at this time to the strains that are being tested for. The tests only pick up 4 or 5 strains of of Lyme out of the 300 different strains that are world wide - so it seems it would be pretty easy for that kind of a test to miss an infection.
Hang in there, and educate yourself about the tick-borne infections please!!
