Is there anything bad about homeopathic medicine?

My naturopath is starting me on a 3 week detox which I am going to begin on Wednesday. One of the supplements I will be taking is an herbal homeopathic medicine (I think he said it will help stimulate my detox organs).

I haven't really researched homeopathy too much, just enough to understand what it is. I know that a lot of people with Lyme disease take homeopathic medicine and I only ever hear good things about it from health sites and blogs. But is it really risk free and totally safe? Homeopathy kind of sounds weird to me so I'm just wondering if anyone has heard or read anything bad about it. Thank you :)

The best homeopathy is what they call classical homeopathy and it should be done through a homeopath trained that way. This way it treats your whole system.

I was very ill in my 20s and that's when I turned to homeopathy after MDs turned me away several times. I had a very good homeopath and I was doing so much better after a month or so and 6 months later I was doing very well. I just told him all of my symptoms and he prescribed the remedy that would get the deeper seated problems first. I had some symptoms go away that I had neglected to tell him about. The remedies are chosen on your totality of symptoms, not on the name of the disease. I think I was on my way out of this world when I went to him.

I recently started up with my homeopath here (not my first one) and I improved quite a bit until this flu bug hit. She helped me cope with going through my mom 's last 3 years and the grief after I lost her. I wouldn't have been able to do what I did those last weeks without it.

I just looked up the one you posted. It may or may not work for you since your system would have to match the symptoms of one of those ingredients. Personally, I wouldn't use it and instead, go to a good classical homeopath that would treat my whole system, rather than take a mixture of remedies that might help some.

It's still my favorite med since it's easier than targeting symptoms one by one and can work faster to restore health. My original doc is training others on how to use it so there will be more available around the country. There's a shortage of them now, unfortunately.

I don't think my doctor specifically trained in just homeopathy. He went to a naturopath university, though and has been treating Lyme naturally for like 24 years.

Thank you for the reply, it definitely helps! I am going to contact my doctor tomorrow and tell him I'm just not comfortable taking a homeopathic medicine. What is confusing is he told me that he didn't think homeopathy would work for me right now then said to take it. I'll just see if I can take something else like milk thistle or something.

I think what works best is a combination of naturals and antibiotics. They can work synergistically together. A good example is Japanese Knotweed which reduces the inflammation of the disease and helps get medicine to different parts of the body such as antibiotics. So they work really well together.

Your doctor most likely had a class in homeopathy, but just didn't choose it for his career. It takes a lot of studying and a devotion to it in order to be able to choose the remedies correctly. It's generally pretty safe. It's nothing like a drug where you can have problems. I've used it on my family for over 26 years with no problems. It saved out cat from distemper when she was a tiny kitten and so sick. I haven't had a bladder infection since I started using it and I had a lot when I was so sick before. Even though I'm ill now, I'm nowhere near where I was back then, in spite of the stress I was under. I've never herxed from it either, even though I probably had a bad case of Lyme in my youth.

I don't think anything is 100% risk free, but homeopathy comes much closer than many therapies do. In my 26 years of using it on myself and others and animals, I've never seen a problem with it. It stimulates your body to correct the imbalances instead of just targeting the parasites or the individual symptoms. It takes the totality of symptoms into account and works on what is weakening your system. Any way...I just didn't want to discourage you from trying it. The mixed remedies probably wouldn't give you a problem. They put those mixes together from remedies most often used for said conditions, so if you happen to match up with one, then it will do something, if you don't, then you shouldn't feel any change. You'd just get much better results doing classical homeopathy.

A good homeopath will add other things if needed.

The teacher was my doctor and I learned a lot from his classes, in spite of my health being so far down.

My SIL's health took a dive a year or 2 ago and she may not have made it if she hadn't tried homeopathy. She's doing well now. I could go on and on about it, but I'll quit here. I just hope I showed you it can help a lot. Good luck with whatever you do.

I forgot to say that with a chronic problem, you can go downhill some before you feel better. I've just never experienced that since I've used it. I asked my doc why after seeing him a few months and he said I was so sick that I had nowhere to go but up!
