Louise74, sorry to hear about your insomnia, when you can't sleep, it's all you can think about!!   It could be the Doxy, that's part of the problem! I had a lot of insomnia when on Doxy and I think others have as well. Is this abx very effective for you? Glad your seeing your doctor this week, maybe he can prescribe something else just as effective w/o effects of insomnia

I would highly, highly recommend getting your adrenals checked. What you are going through sounds exactly like what I was going through. I went two weeks with no more then 1-2 hours of interrupted sleep/night, many nights with no sleep at all.

My naturopathic doctor put me on CALM PRT which is super expensive. Has rhodiola rosea in it which is supposed to reset your HPA axis. Put me out. Like 7-8 hours a night within two days.

We did have one member that tried it that had an adverse reaction so might not be for everyone... but we had another member whose sleep issues were similar and the Calm PRT resolved her insomnia as well.

I would encourage you to look up insomnia + adrenal issues and see if you have other symptoms that match it. I too tried many sleep aids/melatonin and it did absolutely nothing.

What helped me the most, based on this forum, were Phosphatidyl Serine and Rhodiola. I take both in the morning; they're not sedatives.

I take a teeny bit of Melatonin at 7:00 or 8:00, which is when it starts to get dark.

At night, I take Restoril (although I don't know if it's a benzo or not), my Lyrica (spread out a bit through the evening), 1 Benadryl (really for allergies) and 1 Hydroxyzine.

The last two really help with my allergies and help me sleep.

Bright sunlight in the morning is really key, to reset your circadian rhythms, and keep the lighting low at night.

DO NOT use a backlit device like a computer or a cell phone a couple of hours before you go to bed. At sunset, dim the computer screen.

Keep the bedroom totally and completely dark, and that means NO radio alarm, unless it faces away from you. Also, no stereo lights etc. Use blackout shades.

Take a bath before you go to bed. During the night, keep the temperature in your house really cool, say for example, at 65. Don't use an electric blanket, and try to keep electronics as far away from your bed as possible.

Your last meal should be light, and it's good to eat something like turkey, which is high in tryptophans. Have a light snack before you go to bed.

Use your bed only for sex and for sleep, and abs. nothing else, and that includes reading.

If you can't sleep, get up, and go do something, and then try again.

Have the same bed time and wake time every day!

Make sure your bed is super comfortable.

Push the dog down to the bottom of the bed, ha ha!
