I worry about my youngest kid. She's in college now and I think she gets every bug that comes around. She says we gave her a bad immune system and I tell her she just needs to eat better and lower her sugar intake. She has gone completely away from the diet she was raised on and eats a lot more sugar than she did at home. Hopefully some day she will see that I do know a thing or two about health matters. I should send her this article, but she probably wouldn't read it. To be fair, she is living in a sorority house, so she eats what is made there. Next year she will be in an apartment, so she will have more control of what she eats and we will encourage her to buy quality food, which we'll pay for.
My oldest, who has Lyme, does much better diet wise. She often will get a strong craving for something and it usually helps her when she eats it, so she's in tune with her body. She has a good understanding of healthy foods. She recently had a very strong craving for mushrooms and she doesn't like them very much, but she gave into her craving and had some. We talked to our doc about it yesterday and he said it was her immune system needing it since mushrooms do have many health benefits.
Thanks for posting this to help others learn the importance of a good diet.
