all of my kids have it - but not congenitally. after I started treatment, I suspected it in my youngest, who was three. everyone thought I was paranoid. well, I wasn't. she had a few days of throwing up, fevers, wetting her bed, getting a rash from wetting her bed, had a 2 week period of extreme fatigue and then her ankle was hurting. not much, but it was enough to raise a red flag. got her tested, and she clearly had it. the other two started with issues shortly thereafter, so I had them all tested. my oldest however did not come back with any IGM bands for lyme thru stonybrook, so the Dr wasn't convinced. I knew something was wrong, so I paid $270 for Igenex basic western blot, and she was CDC positive. thank goodness the Dr listened to me and we started the doxy two weeks before the results came back. my two youngest have a week to go on antibiotics (been treating for 3 months) and they have been symptom free for 2 months. thank god I trusted my gut instincts. if you suspect anything, a blood test is not going to hurt - its worth every second of your time. kids take much longer to develop lyme symptoms than adults, and it is much harder to pinpoint it. the sooner the better!!
