Lyme from surgery??

Is it possible to get Lyme from arthroscopic hospital equipment?

I had knee surgery back in 12/2012. After surgery is when all of this started. It's most likely just coincidental, but the thought of arthroscopic equipment being used all day on several people popped in my head.

Mom of 2, my symptoms exploded after bunion surgery and I wondered the same thing. However, I have read that any trauma to the body can cause Lyme to become active. I've read about people getting Lyme symptoms after dental surgery, accidents, and wasp stings. I am not sure, but I think you probably had the bacteria but when your immune system got stressed the Lyme became active. I actually thought I had an allergic reaction to the screw in my foot, and had the surgeon take the screw out. Unfortunately it didn't help any.

Unless you had a blood transfusion, as BarnGurl suggested, I'd suspect the trauma of the surgery kicked up Lyme already on-board. That's what I suspect happened to me. In August, when I realized my alimony ended in just under a year, I started to stress big-time. Shortly thereafter, I crashed, and that's when they diagnosed me.

No I did not have a transfusion. Lyme is so strange! How can just lay dormant then raise it's ugly head?

dmw52, wow! For the first time in my life I have developed an allergy to topical antibiotics. I found that one out from the surgery.
