I just viewed the "Nature of Things" with David Suzuki episode. Very well done and informative. It's good to know that the support the Canadian medical needs to afford LD as suggested in the film appears to now be on the cusp of coming to reality with Bill C-442.

By the way, the LLMD (McShane) interviewed throughout the film is the U.S. doctor I saw in Dec. 2012 who diagnosed with me with LD based on my IGeneX results and clinical observation, and prescribed me with antibiotics. As she requires that her patients secure the support and monitoring during treatment by one's local doctor, being in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, I haven't been able to get that support, so unfortunately I never started treatment. I figured it's too risky to do it without such local monitoring. Hopefully, in time Bill C-442 will help clear the way for me (and other Canadians) to get proper treatment.

But will they change the Ontario College's constraints on abx usage?

And will they continue to insist that testing through Igenex, which tests for more WB bands than the CDC permits, is simply bogus?

And will they test for coinfections?

I hope so for the sake of the many Canadians who have been told their symptoms are meaningless.....

Keylimepie - would Dr. McShane not consider a Lyme Literate Naturopathic Doctor sufficient in monitoring/supporting you? We do have one in the Ottawa area.

Hi Summersun. I'm sure that Dr. McShane would consider a Lyme Literate Naturopathic Doctor to monitor/support me, but as I speculate you may be referring to Dr. Jennifer Armstrong, when I called her office quite some time ago and again last week, unfortunately she hasn't been taking any new patients. If you're thinking of another LL Naturopathic Doctor, I'd really appreciate a lead. Thanks!

Have you tried walk in clinics? I know Dr. McShane mentioned some of us Canadians found a doctor in a walk in clinic who was willing to help. It may take 4 or 5 different clinics but worth a shot.

I don't know how you would be planning to pay for the Abx, but doctors are a little more open to treat if you are not going through insurance. From what I've heard, its usually the insurance co's that are putting pressure on docs and reporting them.

Thanks for the suggestion, YTF. Summersun will provide me with a lead and if that doesn't work out, I'll pursue it. I already paid out of pocket for a full regimen of ABXs which as I mentioned, I didn't take, so if I have to, I'll pay again. In time, hopefully it'll all be covered by our health care.

When our LLMD in Buffalo (Dr P) suggested having a doctor north of the border to help run tests etc. I headed to a walk-in clinic because our PCP is a lyme/bart/Igenex denier.

The doctor at the walk-in clinic told me that he had previously worked in the US, so was familiar with the numerical test designations, and agreed to help us.

But when I handed him the first requisition he started complaining that he couldn't read Dr P's writing, that he wanted written copies of all of her clinical notes, that he was not allowed to rewrite the requisitions for certain tests unless there were specific acceptable diagnoses to back them up, that some tests were not available in Ontario and that he wouldn't rewrite the abx prescriptions because he refused to take responsibility for side effects. He was scared. We never went back.

Dr P understood and allowed us to test through LabCorp and mail order abx prescriptions. We have worked on our own along with Dr P with no help on the Canadian side.

Now I am working on my own without Dr P's input, other than bimonthly CBC, CMP testing.

Hi Summersun! I don't know why I didn't receive your first email, but as we've since exchanged emails, I just want to publicly say thank you for providing me with a lead. I have booked an online appointment with the LLND, so I just have to wait for an actual date/time. I'm feeling optimistic.
