I have been in contact with a support group from Victoria, BC. She sent me a map showing Vancouver Island (and the lower mainland) as an endemic region for Lyme..reported by Public Health Agency of Canada.
Yet, the health care providers are not being educated AT ALL about Lyme disease.

I have been told over and over again...it's rare here where I live. And, I have waited a long time to get tested.

She also said that almost all of the 230 member of this support group were either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed (MS/Lupus/Fibromyalgia, etc.) for years.
That is sick.

Thanks Mike! I have been feeling really lousy lately...probably not a bad thing for my Dr. appt.

Bad sleep last night...and my left side has been so tight and sore..and just overall not feeling well mood.

The Dr. I am seeing is treating some of the patients in Victoria.
The lady from the support group was more than helpful...told her my symptoms...said it sounded like could be Lyme. She doesn't know if the Doc I'm seeing will do abx without the blood test results..I am hoping to get started on a few weeks of them...see how it affects me.

thank goodness my hubby is taking me today...I wouldn't have been able to drive. Gotta appreciate the fact I have a supportive partner in this. It would be very hard to go it alone.

According to Dr Klinghardt, all of North America is endemic.

Do those places have rain forests?

I remember seeing gorgeous rain forests outside of Seattle.

Maybe that would account for more ticks.

Yes Vancouver Island is full of rain forests.
The past few years I took up running and from April to September would run 5 days/week on a trail in the bushes.

Last summer we had deer in our back yard and I was out there in my bare feet and shorts almost daily.

Whereabouts do you live on Vancouver Island? My Aunt and Uncle live in Ladysmith. They go for a walk in the back trails every day with their dogs. Do you think they are at risk?

I live in Campbell River, so about an hour north of Parksville.
The map I saw showed entire Vancouver Island as a risk area. The email from the Victoria Lyme Support group said there was one member from Parksville.

If it's in Victoria...it's on the whole island. Apparently the ticks are carried by birds.

They definitely need to be aware of it.

Yes I told them all about it before! I will have to mention it to them again to make sure they take better precautions. I told them it is not a fun illness to have and they believe it. But they go for their nature walk every single day! It is their routine, and they do it every single morning.

Just tell them to check each other out after their walk. Let them know how small the tick nymphs are...though because that was something i didn't know until I saw a video on it.

I may suggest them try the premethrin, and to tuck their pants into their socks. And get the dogs some socks or foot wear too.
