Yes, my dog is on long-term antibiotics, although the vet wants her to do 12 days off and 10 days on. Twelve days off is too long, so I put her on Cat's Claw the rest of the time, and take five days off. But still, to think the local vet. in a small town was willing to do that.
Not withstanding, at least my FNP uses long-term Doxy. She's an integrative med. practitioner.
But otherwise, no other doc. treats Lyme, period. They'll put you on 14 days of abx if you bring them a picture of a bull's-eye rash, and that's it. The Dept. of Public Health sees people with Lyme all day long (so a nurse told me, but there is absolutely no publicity).
Not only that, but the nurses at the very rural Dept. Public Health know all about erlichiosis, babesia, etc. BUT when doctors ask me why I'm on anti-malarial medicine, and I say Babesiosis, they say, "I've never heard of that" (and I think that's actually true)!
Interestingly, the small towns know more about Lyme than the bigger towns and cities. The surgeon who operated on my thumb said, "We have good results with Dr. J."
The country-club doctor snobs in Boone are total jerks about it.
