Do you get upset when people deny "chronic" lyme?

I Never really cared before, but a close family friend told me he learned in med school that there is no proof for chronic lyme. I don't know why but I can't get this out of my head, it makes me feel crazy even though long term abx therapy has been making me feel better!

Sorry if this upsets anyone I just needed somewhere to sound off :(

It's ridiculous, isn't it? I just don't get how these "intelligent" people are so close minded.

Maybe it will take a law suit one day to "smarten" everyone up.

I was so happy/relieved for my diagnosis. That lasted a few days...now reality has set in - this isn't an easy treatment/cure. Now I'm angry - angry that not one flippin' doc even considered Lyme.
What a waste of my time and money. I've lost a year of wages that can never be recovered. So many of us are ruined financially from the lack of diagnosis and treatment.
Sorry, I'm ranting now.

Maybe it will be positive in the end. When he sees you get better with treatment, maybe he'll get over his med school brainwashing.

But yes, that would tick me off too! Ooh, pun unintended...

It infuriates me too, it's like they're doubting what we're feeling, what we're thinking, even doubting our sanity. We are still sick because their medication didn't work not because we like spending our money on making a doctors life more complicated. Their arrogance defies description.

Ha ha ha ha - uhmmm yes!! very!! mad Not much gets me riled up more than someone denying chronic Lyme! devil LOL!

To deny chronic Lyme is to tell us that we are all nuts! None of our symptoms are imagined, and there is no other infection that people are being told to live with when the first round of small dose abx don't work.

They are only taught the IDSA's side of chronic Lyme in Med school is what's wrong! Short term abx work and those that still have symptoms have psychological issues.

Just having a rough day in general, scared of being on abx for this long(probably a total of 20 months). It's good talking to people who understand. I'm really young and it's hard watching my youth sort of slip by as I deal with all this. What can you do though?

I agree Girlie! We should all do a class action lawsuit. Hey, that's what a lot of people who were on acutane did and they all got over a million each. Maybe then we could afford our treatment!

It isn't and I've accepted that. The reality is I have parents and family who are supporting me/my treatment and I've been fortunate enough to be born into a good country where that's possible. It's not all bad

Reba - know what's worse than watching your youth slip by?
Being older and feeling like you're running out of time.

basically - no time is a good time to get lyme disease. We're stuck with it and gotta deal with it the best we can.

but, yah, it sucks.

I am in my thirties and have 6 children and feel
Like the last of my youth is being spent up on lyme, however I've been sick off and on since childhood so I have never had a "normal" baseline. I do not know what's worse, never knowing what normal is, or knowing normal and losing it. Any way you dice it it's not pretty. I am grateful for the days I can do normal things without feeling like I may collapse and need an ambulance.

I just finished reading Cure Unknown, and it really explains all the controversy surrounding the idea of Lyme being chronic or not. It's a great book and it helped me realize the political realm of this disease. It's worth reading!
