How to distinguish between herx and symptoms?

Hi all!
What do you think, how could one distinguish between the symptoms caused by toxins (if I'm right this called "herx") and symptoms caused by the bacteria (borrelia) itself?
And it is also a good question if the borrelia generates toxins only by itself (metabolism), or only if it dies? Or maybe all lyme symptoms are because of the toxins? If not, than what other way can borrelia harm the body (tissues)?
Does anyone know the answers for these questions? This would be the basic knowledge for treatment I think.

Not sure it is easily determined. I had to call my llmd last week cause I had a bad spell last week and wanted to know if it was the 'herx' I kept reading about. Answer from drs office....maybe. so I have the same question as you regarding recognizing a herx from a flare up. All I can say from experience is it felt like nearly every sypm I have had came back for 3-4 days and then I recovered so I believe it was a herx cause my flareups always lasted longer. Dr also said could be reaction to abx but I dont think so for now. Drs office did say I should track these herxes, to expect more, and dr will use that as imput to treatment.

I agree. Herxing is definitely like Lyme x 100. The first week I was on Doxy I had new symptoms pop up and the ones I already had increase ten fold. Sometime herxing is misdiagnosed as a bad reaction to medication. My LLMD helped my sort it out after my GP pulled me off of the Doxy. Herxing does pass. I think my worst herx lasted about a week.

Herxing can also be helped by detoxing such as taking Alka Seltzer Plus Gold, dry brushing and detox baths. They work!
