Last 10% of recovery harder to achieve than the first 90%?

So I think 90% is just arbitrary number. And I have been here for about 5 months. It seems I got to 90% relatively quickly. In case anyone doesn't know how I got here, I did a combo of minocycline, tinidazole, Plaquenil, and septra DS. And it got me here pretty fast. Actually it just took 6 weeks.

But is it true that the last 10% is harder to get than the first 90%? It seems that way for me. I am hearing pretty much everyone can get to 90% recovered, but it really takes lots of effort, commitment, discipline, time, and focus to get the last 10%! Apparently only in kids is treatment as straightforward as just take your antibiotics and probiotics and you will eventually beat this lol. Not so easy in adults. And it's tough because once you start you can't stop, otherwise you will backslide and lose progress. You are only done at 100%. If treatment isn't progressing it is not good because it means you could just be on antibiotics for the rest of your life or if you stop them the disease will just come back.

Ugh... Many more layers of the onion to peel... I am dealing with an unfinished bartonella infection, residual remaining Borrelia, and heavy metals. These 3 I know for sure but there maybe more issues like parasites, yeast, and "damage of the infections to heal". I may use the tinidazole again for Borrelia, I keep reading it really is the #1 thing that kills it.

LymePickle - Is it possible that with time, those few will go away - is it possible that your body just needs to heal? There's got to be some residual damage...that needs healing? Like you said - only 6 weeks and you were 90%. ...that's pretty quick for the body to also heal...
Maybe you will continue to heal over the next few weeks/months.

I did read an article - a woman took doxy for two months (wasn't late stage) and when she finished, she still had a lot of fatigue, but her aches/pains were gone. It took her two-three months before the fatigue left her...and she wasn't taking anything anymore.

I'm not saying to stop taking your antibiotics...but I'm saying you may be still healing.

When I was 0% cured? Well i was fighting this since 3 days after I caught it. I had insomnia, intense anxiety, my body was on fire, I was fatigued, I had red blood shot eyes, I was brain fogged, my throat felt like it was being choked, I felt like I was being stabbed in the chest, my muscles were on fire, I had jaw pain, emotional instability, a couple of my teeth went numb, my nose went numb, my vision was flashing, I got ringing in the ears, testicle pain, nausea, depression, fire like headaches, ice pick headaches, burning pain, my knees were inflamed and in pain, I had all around bad joint pain, stiff painful neck, I was dizzy, getting sweats, had cold intolerance, low blood pressure, low body temperature, a red rash on my feet, confusion.

And now I rarely even get any of those. But I have a new symptom list now and it might occasionally have one of the symptoms mentioned above.

I was thinking the same thing Girlie said...

It is possible you did the number on em...but maybe still have the neurotoxins floating around and I read these can cause symptoms just like the active infection(s).......Or depending on how long you had the infections, maybe need the time for the residual damage to heal in your body.

It just sucks there's no way to prove that though really...

I guess thats why they say treat 2 additional months after symptoms resolved...but do we ever get ALL symptoms resolved if damage has been done(say joint pain for example).


Also though, like you mentioned addressing other things. Systemic candida/yeast causes alot of symptoms that overlap with lyme. There is always the possibility of parasites as well. Does your doctor do blood smear's for parasites? They are a good way of testing babesia and such.

You know, its funny...regarding myself....the only positive test that I have *thus far (besides my clinical lyme/bart diagnosis and having a oval rash following tick bite) tested positive for is babesia from labcorp. But guess what, I dont even have the main symptom which is night sweats nor do I have any air hunger (*knocks on wood*;). Im sure I can name other babesia symptoms that overlap with lyme/bart/etc....but go figure, what I even tested positive for...Im not really symptomatic for!

So not trying to scare you, but keep in mind that the parasites can be tricky or over-rided by other co's such as bart (which I have like EVERY symptom with exception of streaky marks!). I really think I even got the bart before I got lyme and the combo of all is what made it all go down in my body :-/

At any rate, this is why some llmds pretty much treat everything suspicious. It sounds like maybe either you are there and have the toxins still trying to make their way out of your body from hitting it with the big gun Tindamax or there may be one 10% piece of the puzzle that is missing that needs to be targeted.

I have a feeling your on the right track, try not to get discouraged!

So true to the 90/10. I joined here a little over a year ago and was hopeful that I would be cured by now. Well, being at over 90% I at least can carry a somewhat normal life and can work. I find that the better I get, the more impatient I am to finally be done with all of this. I am so, so tired of taking so many medicines, to have to watch what I eat and to feel worse days after I stop taking my medicine.

Healing98 - Did you get to 90% within a couple months?

Girlie, I felt much better within about 6 or so weeks but not 90% (with Amox and Clarithromycin). I say maybe 70%. But then something happened that I began to feel worse. I thought that maybe the bacteria had become resistant. I changed prescriptions (to Doxy) and got even worse. I went back to my first prescriptions and felt better but to maybe 40% and not the 70%. Later on I found out that what happened was that as the Lyme retreated, Bartonella took over and what I was feeling was Bartonella symptoms. It wasn't until I started Rifampin that I felt better to the 90% mark.

My last 10% symptoms are fatigue, gastric issues, and vision problems. I can deal with them since they are insignificant to what they once were, but they are big enough that they impact me from working out of being able to eat a normal meal.

So healing98 did you start with Ammox and then add the clarithromycin after? So those two go together well? How much Ammox were you taking? Did you feel any better from just the Ammox? Im on Ammox now as I didnt get enough improvement from the doxy even after adding zithro. Altho I dont think the zithro was given enough time.


Just looking ahead and thinking what I can add to my Ammox in 4 weeks as thats how often my Dr likes to change it up

Girlie, Ammox and Clarithromycin were prescribed together by my LLMD from the very beggining. They work great together and target the bacteria in different ways. I had great hopes for Doxy and azithromycin since they were mentioned here a lot but unfortunately they did not work for me.

As a matter of fact, my anxiety and depression were so extremely awful that I spent days in bed not wanting to get up. I recall how I didn't even cared if I went to the bathroom in bed or not. I didn't care for life any more. Within two days after stopping the azithromycin, my mood got better and the depression and anxiety went away. I also seem to do well with bactrim. I added bactrim to the Ammox and Rifampin a few weeks ago but unfortunately, it seems that for me, Batrim neutralizes the Rifampin because when I took all three, the bartonella symptoms began to come back again.

If you have have not tried Rifampin, I highly recommend that you talk to your doctor about it. It has done so much for me that if I had to choose one antibiotic, That is the one I would choose. It is the only thing that can stop the terrible headaches, the crippling leg pain, the blurry eye issues and the memory problems that I was experiencing.
