New to Lyme-Looking for LLMD

I've not felt well for nearly three years. Started with dizzy spells and fatigue and many new symptoms as time went on. I started feeling a lot worse this Summer and in July, ended up in the ER after what appeared to be a stroke at work. I was flown to another hospital and basically told that my "episode" was stress and I needed to find a way to manage it. Right! I couldn't walk without assistance even 10 hours after the attack. I was holding onto things for nearly 5 days just to get around. My sister talked me into going to the lady she sees who is a Physician's Assistant. She took lots of blood, set me up for a stress test, echocardiogram, dopler (I had already had a CT scan, MRI, EKG as a result of the ER visit). She called about two weeks later to let me know that I was Lyme positive and also tested positive for EBV and CMV. She prescribed z-pack and set up an appointment with an Infectious Disease Doctor. My first visit with him was last Tuesday. I am currently on doxycylene 100mg twice per day. He took more blood and from what I can tell from the paperwork he gave me, the blood was for a PCR test. He mentioned that if my symptoms weren't resolved by the time I go back, he might want to do a spinal tap to test for Lyme Meningitis and he even mentioned IV antibiotics. Terrified of the spinal tap and from what research I've been able to do, there's not much benefit to having one as the treatment is still the same. Not really sure where he stands with really treating Lyme and I'm trying to not judge him based on one visit. However, I want to be pro-active and find a Lyme Literate MD. I live in Kentucky and am only an hour or so from Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati, OH. From what I've read, Lyme patients sometimes have to drive hours to find a doctor who will treat the disease. Any help someone can give in locating one close will be greatly appreciated.

Just a suggestion, you might want to change your 'heading' to specify where you are seeking your LLMD.

Ex: Looking for LLMD around Lexington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, OH.

That way, people in the know with that info will know by the heading what you need, and where. You may get quicker responses.

I am very sorry to hear you are also dealing with this illness. Hang in there, and from my experiences, and so many others state the same, it may be best to 'follow your instincts' during this path of healing. Many of us have found that somehow we DO know what WE need to do, and what could do more harm, and often we are proven correct. Don't hesitate to tell dr's NO, such as with the spinal tap, if YOU feel it isn't what is needed. Remember, dr's work for the patient.

Just please, don't give up. You CAN find the help YOU NEED, and you CAN get better.
