I also had the exact same thing Girlie. Horrible pain in my left scapula area, numbness in my left forearm and thumb/index finger, and loss of strength (I couldn't hold a frying pan). I ended up in the emergency room the pain was so bad in my shoulder, but I wouldn't suggest you head to an ER if you can tolerate it whatsoever - for me, hydrocodone did not alleviate the pain at all and the ER doc did want to give me anything else since I had to drive.
You probably need an MRI (if the problem is still acute) to ensure it isn't a herniated disc issue. My C5-C6 was badly herniated and I saw a neurosurgeon who said it was most likely going to need a fusion because it was "huge". Praise God it spontaneously resolved (which I attribute to God, not luck) so I have never had a steroid shot or surgery. I will say that the nerve damage took quite a while to resolve my strength issue, but I did regain 90-95%. I wouldn't ignore the pain if you aren't getting relief or progressing in a positive trajectory, because nerves can be permanently damaged if it really is a pinch that isn't resolving.
As my pain subsided (probably about 5-6 days) to a tolerable amount, I decided to wait on surgery. The neurosurgeon told me that if I wasn't getting worse, it would be beneficial to avoid surgery (obviously). He said the disc would be absorbed by my body and that I had to refrain from all physical activity (with a 10lb weight restriction) for 2 months. It did help me to use rotating applications of ice packs and also to get into a bath (full enough that my entire torso could float) and let my shoulder and head float to take the pressure off of the disc. Against the advice of my neurosurgeon, I did see a chiropractor and had my neck adjusted (it did not hurt or irritate my problem as I feared it might given the surgeon's "advice") and had them do some decompression of that disc. I don't know what I recommend to you, but those things worked for me.
I think, given the MRI, it is clear I had an acute episode going on. However, today I still get re-visted by weakenss, tremors, shoulder pain, numbness, etc in my left arm (and actually has progressed to my leg). I don't know this to be fact, but I suspect it is lyme causing this extenuating condition.
I have my first LLMD appt at the end of October. I can't wait to finally address some of these issues.
