Hello everyone,
As I am trying to absorb all of this information out there, I would really love some input from those with more experience.
As far as my case, I have a positive blood test (Stony Brook - waiting for Igenex results) and so from what I understand seem to have a pretty cut and dry diagnostic case in that regard. Dr. S's office in San Fran thinks that I got it in 1995, so it's been a while unfortunately. Could've contracted Lyme in 2011 though.
So I live in LA but went to San Fran in order to see a true specialist. I saw Dr S but was not able to see the doc himself, and am instead the patient of his NP.
I have a few concerns about my experience, and this is where I would love input.
1. I am just the NP's patient and she does not get Dr. S' opinion (as a practice anyway) on her cases. I didn't feel she knew nearly as much as the doc would, however at least I know that the general treatment protocols are what Dr. S has researched and approved.
I am torn about how I feel being her patient, but I think that I want to feel like my healer is someone super smart and knowledgeable.
2. They use abx and symptom treatment ONLY - absolutely nothing holistic. THey have no recommendations re: detox or diet, etc. This really surprised me. However, I suppose I could always supplement myself. I had just been hoping to have some guidance in this regard, and makes me a little circumspect that they don't think any of that is important.
3. They aren't doing differential diagnoses on my different symptoms to make sure to rule anything out. They seem to think that my blood test is definitive, are testing me for co-infections, and are not concerned with any brain scans, ruling out MS/lupus, etc.
4. They generally don't do IV abx. The idea of IV makes me nervous anyway, but I have read so many accounts of people improving so much more with IV. What do you think of them not doing it?
So in general, do you think that this office is missing some important components of treatment, or do you think the fact that he is on the forefront of current research, and obviously is respected in his treatment protocol, is enough to put all trust in his office?
I am also considering Dr. H in San Fran, and so if anyone has in put on the differences between these 2 docs, that would be much appreciated!
Please let me know your thoughts and experiences! Thank you!!
