My llnd prescribed hydrocortisone. I thought steroids were bad for lyme?!

They are. Maybe you need a new LLND or at least educate the one you have. Maybe someone here has a link to an article you could take to him/her. Good luck!

Generally speaking, yes, they are bad for lyme disease...as they can suppress the immune system.

But, if you have adrenal fatigue...and it's not being managed by natural herbs, some Drs will prescribe low doses of cortisone. This can be temporary...until your adrenals are functioning again. I have read that low doses - 2-5 mg. are okay when you have lyme disease. I think when "they" talk about steroids being bad for lyme, "they're" talking about prednisone and in higher doses - like 20-40 mg.

Do you know the dose he wants to prescribe to you? Is it for your adrenals - are they not producing enough?

He said my adrenals are at 0 so i need to take 25 mg. a day. I wasn't handling it well so he told me to take half of that until tomorrow along with half of the zithromax. i think he is trying to get my test results to come back positive with this approach?!

Well, you won't heal if your adrenals are shot, so you have to take something to help them heal. I've chosen to use natural meds, but your doctor has to agree to treat you if you choose to use them instead. So it's up to you. Generally speaking, hydrocortisone for treating adrenal issues is okay, unless you are really sensitive to it and won't heal while on them. It too is a case by case thing.

I have read that you should start low and raise if necessary.

I hope your LLND is qualified to determine your needs.

Just curious - have you seen an endocrinologist? might be an idea for a second opinion. Although, the endocrinologist probably won't know anything about lyme disease...unless there are LL endocrinologists?

Yes, but very few LL Endo's. I think I have only one on my list.
Just a knowledgeable Endo doesn't exist in my area!! I had the worst Endo in the business, I swear!!! He only got one appt out of me, because the first words out of his mouth were you need surgery. I went in with concerns about my thyroid and possible adrenal issues - he brushed them off and went straight for the surgery option!! shocked

Later down the road, I found a good doc that recognized my adrenals were shutting down (again) and that I could have had thyroid issues - good thing too! I'm on 1.5 grains of Amour thyroid a day now and have no more swallowing issues!!!

I feel ok the lower dose. But something is still very off with me. My brain just won't work right. Ive only been taking all the vitamins and antibiotics and steroids for 10 days or so. I'm completely overwhelmed and my only job is to be sick! I don't understand why I feel so flustered and anxious. It's the worst :(

It's likely part of having Lyme - many feel this way at one point or another, and it's usually in the beginning. There is so much information to digest, changes to our diets, new pills to get in the habit of taking, and more.

Have you started detoxing yet? I would suggest that you get started right away, as toxins can actually increase the amount of stress we feel.

I'm not sure if im doing enough detoxing. I'm taking so much stuff I have no idea what is supposed to do what. I'm taking NAC, Serraflazyme, Capryllic, a multivitamin, Meriva, DGL Plus, Artemisinin, Bromelaine, Lyme Nosode, Zithromycin, and Hydrocortisone. And probiotics.... Of course eating healthy and drinking lots of water.

From what you listed, the only things you are actually doing to detox is drinking water, but there is a lot more you can be doing.

Have you read through our thread, "New to Lyme? Start here!" yet? It's got a great post about detoxing - with suggestions! You can be adding lemon to your water - which helps keep the body alkaline rather than acidic, doing detox soaks, dry skin brushing, oil pulling, taking binders - which will bind to the toxins to help them be more easily 'ushered' out of the body and other things.

Wow traveler, I have been having difficulty swallowing and my last TSH was 19.24. i wondered if my throat feeling swollen making it hard to swallow these dang pills might be due to the new thyroid issue. Thanks for mentioning that symp. I wish I got paid to be a Dr cause I play one in real life....good grief

Yes, the back side of the thyroid swelling is a more 'rare' thing, but it's very, very real - let me tell you!!! I would encourage you to follow up on this until you can find a doctor that will actually listen to your concerns!

I had developed Addison's and it drug my thyroid down with it. My doc believe that as the adrenals heal, so will my thyroid - I hope she's right!!!

I hope she is right too. Im getting dis ouraged by everything that seems to be failing, thyroid, bladder, mind, joints, etc. Can all these issues be caused by the lyme im not cdc positive for....horrible zentence structure but best I can do now.

I got some tri fortify for detoxing today. I'll try and squeeze in an Epsom salt bath everyday. Lemon makes my skin worse :(

Don't worry about your sentence structure - as long as we can figure it out, we understand and will do our best to help!!

Yes, Lyme can cause all kinds of organs and systems to start malfunctioning or go wrong. You will need to support all those systems so that you can heal, but once you have healed from Lyme, it's quite possible that many, most or all of those will clear on their own.
