Ongoing bladder issues - D-mannose or abx?

Got another urinalysis that showed bladder, kidney issue - WBC Esterase was abnormal, with high WBC and mucus threads but no bacteria cultured. I wondered what bacteria they were testing for, I even commented that they were probably not testing for lyme or coinfections bacteria and I suspect my bactetia culture would then be positive. I may call labcorp Mon and ask them what is part of the bacteria culture.

so one dr suggests I use D-mannose and the lyme dr ordered another abx without consulting me.

to be honest im getting sick of taking pills and so many abx concerning. Anyone with bladder, kidney issues that has used D-mannose? It is $43 for one months suppy. This isa recurring issue for past few years. I have never used D-mannose and really dont want to unless those who have this issue have found it to clear up their bladder issues. Im tired of this recurring, tells me once again ds just treating symps and not understanding or figuring out why it is happeni g.

Lyme is almost impossible to culture because it's a spirochete and involves a very specific medium with long incubation periods. It will not just grow on a petri dish. It's also almost completely anaerobic so any exposure to oxygen will kill it. I'm not sure if Bart can be cultured on agar though. I have asked my urologist if he's ever seen Borellia come up in a urine or semen culture and he said never in his 40-something years of practicing.

That d-mannose is pricey. The one I sell is $20 less called cleartract. Keep in mind it only works on UTIs caused by e-coli. Has your bladder issues coincided with your other Lyme symptoms? I have burning upon urination which lately has gotten worse as it's lingered after urinating. I really don't know if it's Lyme or not. A friend of mine just had a semen culture come back slightly positive for enterococcus faecalis so I'm going to have the same test done to see if anything comes up. He's being treated by his urologist but mine said he wouldn't even treat it. He just doesn't believe that's the culprit. Once you've had a long time like I have it's very tough to eradicate even if you find the cause. It's all very discouraging.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you or uour friend think the urologists are really getting to yhe cause of the recurring infection. @

If this was caused by ecoli wouldn't that have probably should up in culture?

The urologists are grasping at straws. I've been to about 7 different ones and none of them have a clue of what's going on. They know what to call it, prostatitis, but don't know the cause or how to treat it. Mine hasn't responded to Levaquin but I've never taken it for more than 10 days. My friend's does respond but it seems to come back. Maybe because his is more acute and mine chronic.

Maybe you have Interstitial Cystitis? I found a success story online where the person was diagnosed with enterococcus and had to treat for over 7 months before all symptoms resolved.

Enteroccocus is not easy to culture though being a gram-positive bacterium. Agar is not a good medium for it to grow so I think a lot of people don't getva proper diagnosis. Then again yours could just be the Lyme.

I would give D-mannose a try - nothing to loose, it's just a sugar. When our daughter was young she had recurrent UTI's. After two infections and two rounds of abx (successful each time) I said no more and tried D-mannose powder for a couple of months when the next infection developed. She recovered and has never had another.

I have had success myself with D-mannose. Same thing as above. Recurrent infections treated successfully with abx but I finally got tired of taking abx. D-mannose resolved the next infection and I never had another.

Mind you, we may not be talking about the same infections, or the same symptoms, but they were clinically diagnosed UTI's.

I have been reading about d-mannose today and all suggest this is good for ecoli related invections. No bacteria was cultured so not sure of its effectiveness. However since it is natural I think I will try it.
