antibiotic challenge?

I'm trying to talk my hubby into doing an antibiotic challenge - want to see if he herxes...because I think he could have lyme disease...maybe he gave it to me (his symptoms predate mine)

So, I have leftover doxycycline. How long before he'd herx?

I herxed two days after the full dose was implemented.

I have enough doxy leftover for him to be on half dose for two days, then full dose for 7 days...most people do herx by then?

Hi Girlie, I have no idea. We are going to do the same thing with my youngest son. We feel he also has Lyme but his immune system is too suppressed to create the antibodies. Since 3 out of 4 of us have tested positive, there seems to be a very probable chance.

I herxed the next day after first starting treatment. It lasted a very, long, month.

I have been on 200 mg mino for a week and I haven't herxed. Maybe I don't have Lyme? Do ALL people with Lyme herx?

No, Utahgirl, not everybody has a herx reaction.

One example; my husband tested positive and went on antibiotics. His symptoms were resolved but he never had a herx.

And there is really no way of knowing how long it will take to get a reaction, Girlie. On that brief course of doxycycline your husband might feel slightly better or slightly worse, but you wouldn't be able to tell if that was just a normal reaction to the doxy itself.

Do you think you should get him tested? Another approach would be to try the Cowden protocol and see if he reacts to that.

I guess he could take it...and if he does react - either herx or feel better, then we'd have a pretty good idea.
If his body doesn't react in that time...he's no worse off.

I want to get him tested, but he keeps saying...maybe some day...but he may be willing to take antibiotics for a week.

He's had joint pain for several years now...and for a few years he had very sore feet upon waking...could hardly walk. Also fatigue.
He was tested for thyroid issues...and is now on medication...it seemed to work for a while, but now it's not so much.
