Has anyone ever tried this? Claims vitamin D is bad?? Also does not recommend high dose abx. This goes against everything we hear an what most llmd a practice.

I think you will find that this is an out of date protocol.

If we restricted everything that Borrelia needs that causes depletion in us, it would be hard to exist!

I think this was in reaction to when high doses of abx were being used up front which caused terrible herxheimer reactions.

Actually, a variation of the marshall protocol is still being practiced. We have an MD in Vancouver, BC that does it. He operates outside of the health care plan - private practice...and they don't bother him regarding the long term antibiotics.

The treatment is for years...and I can't remember why the vitamin D levels are supposed to be low...and the antibiotics are lower dose than what you would typically see for lyme treatment.

I have read testimonies from people who said it cured them.

A retired LLMD here in Canada told me that he didn't think it was a good protocol - as he had to treat many people who tried the marshall protocol, and it failed.

I have studied the Marshall Protocol and feel it has some merit. I don't believe the scope of its claims, but the thoughts behind it seem valid. We are all different and I don't feel that one thing will work for all of us, but for those people who have non-functioning VDR's due to mutation, his protocol would be worth a try IMO. I'm not into the low dose antibiotics at this time, but a part of my immune system is suppressed for some reason yet I am very healthy and don't get colds or the flu. I feel if you could combine his work with Amy Yasko's work with Dr Rau's work, you could make some progress.

As Georgia said, Marshall's protocol only applies to those with VDR malfunction (genomic variants, and/or, IIRC, may be caused by mycoplasma), in the setting of chronic stealth infection(s).

Those who don't fall into this category tend to not respond well to Marshall's Protocol.

So IMHO, one would be better off getting their VDR status checked, as well as their Vitamin D levels (the 1,25 level as well as the 25 OH level) checked first, prior to diving into the Marshall Protocol.

What is VDR? is that related to vit. D levels (Vit D ratio? - just guessing)

VDR = Vitamin D Receptor. This is a genetic SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) that is involved with Vitamin D processing in the body.
