I am currently on rifampin and minocycline. I was on doxycline for 2 months. Then clarithromycin and plaquenil for 1 month then rifampin and minocycline for the past month and a half.
I have oral thrush now. I also have candida symptoms that I am treating with nystatin. I eat a paleo diet and I try to stay as clean as possible with my diet. I am starting to feel better but I was never super sick in the first place. I started treating my infection immediately after getting infected.
My question is how safe is it to transition from antibiotics to only herbals? I don't feel as many side effects from Herbals as I do with antibiotics. I am currently taking buhner babesia bartonella and Lyme protocol. I also take probiotocs many supplements and I have a good detox regiment.
Any suggestions would be great

This is a great question! I'd love to know the answer as well! All you herbies out there, please chime in when you get a chance.

Well, I guess that makes me an Herbie!! LOL!
I healed using just herbals, so of course I feel it would be safe, but what does your doctor think?
Will you have to stop seeing them if you use only herbals? A doctor is very helpful when we get stumped, so if you do have to stop seeing your doc, I would greatly encourage you to find a Naturopath or very good Master Herbalist to help you through your treatments.

Once I had the courage to, I went off of antibiotics. I did have a lot of bumps so I would recommend trying to find a support system like a good herbalist, naturopath or homeopath to guide you. I would immediately jump to "Its lyme" when it wasn't - and they were able to guide me through that.
That is really the only suggestion I have and it certainly isn't necessary, it just helped me personally having someone else to turn to and that if I really did take a dive would tell me I wasn't done with abx yet. Many herbalist do skype now also which is nice!
Good luck!

I would definately stop seeing the doctor I see now because she is a firm believer in antibiotics. I am not against antibiotics but knowing all I know about
herbs now I feel it is safer and more productive than antibiotics.
I think we put WAY to much trust into pharmaceuticals and not enough in the tested natural remedies that have been around forever. I do not have a naturopathic doctor and although I may be able to find one. One good thing about
my LLMD is she is very inexpensive and accepts insurance unlike naturopaths.

I so agree about
the trust people put into the pharmaceuticals, I just shake my head when i see 'those' commercials.
I do believe there is a place for some of the drugs, like antibiotics and a few others just to get started on while building up our nutrition and immune systems, and also finding the right herbs and supplement to help our condition.
I am going to do the Buhner protocol, My LLMD follows Buhner, and next month at my follow up i will be asking about
stopping the abx, I've been on them since September, hanging in there for now. Herbs are much safer!

Not sure what to advise about
the abx. I just started IV Rocephin and well, it's a rocky start. But I was not making headway with the lyme herbs—not as much as I had been with the herbs I was taking for Bart and Babesia. So I'm doing a hybrid treatment for now—Rocephin for the lyme and herbs for the other co-infections. And I will re-evaluate often during my long course of treatment, I'm sure, as I think we all should.
But I did want to offer a suggestion for the thrush… sorry for those who have read this in my posts a hundred times. But I highly recommend a pure powder form of Nystatin over any other form, which has crap in it you don't need. You put a little of the powder into water and swish it around in your mouth and swallow—helps coat everything in your mouth, esophagus and stomach. Whereas anything else you ingest just sits in your stomach. It has helped me tremendously. You can buy it online or get it at a compounding pharmacy—much less expensive than other Rx for Nystatin.

With all the different combinations of treatments that are represented on this site, it's easy to see (well for me anyway) that each of us needs something unique to heal from these infections. Something that has been said for years.
So we each have to make the decision of what's right for us at that particular point in time - and then allow ourselves to change things as we need to.

my son (4) was on abx for about
14 weeks for his lyme. They brought him to a good place of, I'd say about
90%+ symptom free. We did stop them though for him just a little earlier than I had thought we would in the beginning of his treatment.
And, we stopped them, b/c by the last few weeks on abx, I was noticing new symptoms, that didn't seem like lyme and the llmd suspected yeast. That made sense.
He was having stomach aches after most meals, and sore throats (after eating sometimes too), and then fungal rashes and finally some fungus on his toenails causing about
3 to 4 to fall off.
We were trading lyme symptoms for yeast symptoms…I knew it was time for a change. The thing is, I had decided (considered, researched and decided) that I wanted to have him do herbs anyway after antibiotics, to make sure the lyme was taken care of. But with the yeast issue he was having, we decided to switch a bit earlier.
It wasn't just yeast either, really, I think he was also starting to not be able to tolerate the side effects of abx any longer.
On the herbs, I'm learning they can be powerful at finding and getting the lyme (that's his experience). And, also that we need to keep up a good probiotics regimen.
I'm glad for our decision. It's different for everyone I know. And, I'll never speak badly of abx, b/c they did their job in him; it was just they had run their course; time for a change.
I think lots of research, time to reflect on the decision, talking with others (including llmd), and then following your gut are things that help.
