I was wondering if anyone here experienced slow healing of fractures because of these infections.
My broken vertebra is not healing within the 'normal' range of time. I was supposed to wear a brace for 6 to 8 weeks. It's been 10 weeks and I need to continue wearing it for 9 more weeks. The mri shows it hasn't mended yet. I can try to leave it off for short periods of time, at home, but it's almost impossible. I can do it for 10 minutes but then I can't stand it any longer.
I'm curious if anyone dealt with this (no matter what fracture)
Thanks!

I know that healing in general can go slower, but this is a considerable delay

Hi Marie,
Very sorry to hear that!
I think my broken toe took about
three months. I had to wear one of those "boots."
Is it different for a vertebra? Is there any other reason why it wouldn't be healing?

I have no idea... He didn't speak of osteoporosis, just showed where it's not healing. There is still fluids in and around the fracture.
I did behave the way I should, wore the brace all the time, nothing moved too, the fracture is still stable.

Ask him some more questions.
Perhaps you need to see someone more specialized?
Does he think you might need surgery? Not trying to scare you; just asking.
Let me know, how it goes!!!!!

I asked so many questions. He's a good orthopedist/prostetic surgeon.
He doesn't want to operate on me for several reasons
1. Too early
2. Operation is very heavy, it would be an abdominal back surgery
3. No guarantees it'll makes things better
Patience I guess....

I'm glad you trust him. I believe you make good decisions.
Yes, I think he's right about
the surgery. Sounds pretty awful.
So sorry you have to be so patient. It must be a drag!!

Scroll down to the remedy "Symphytum". It's just another idea if you're interested.
The plant is used as an herbal preparation for it too, but I haven't known anyone who has used it that way.

I've read that consuming broth really helps speed up healing. There was a thread here earlier today with a recipe that sounded delicious.
Edit: should have said bone broth

Hey,
For some reason I never thought about
natural remedies for healing broken bones. Those are great ideas!
And don't forget calcium, magnesium, and Vitamin D.
I might look on the internet for other ideas.

I am one of these people who have probably had lyme all their lives but i was diagnosed only one year ago. I am 71 now. about
7 years ago i fell down some stairs and ended up dislocating my shoulder and breaking bones in it badly where the gaps between bone fragments was up to 1/2 an inch as per the x-ray. The surgeon installed 2 titanium screws and said i would regain 90% of my use of my right arm.
The result is that i have about
90% use of that right arm which alone is enough to get by. Now with my lyme and with the herxing that is going on, i am finding that this herxing is really hard on my shoulder but it is even worse on my elbow below my shoulder and this elbow had no broken bones, but i guess all its tendons and nerves got really shook up with that fall. With the herxing now going on from my treatment, the pains i am experiencing in my elbow are far worse than even the pain of the breaking of my shoulder. The pain is constant in my elbow and one does get used to pain but when it stops me from sleeping as often happens then this becomes a problem. My herxing is really getting bad these days too, and its effected my right knee also which was never injured. This knee herxing has been going on since last February and i am getting tired of walking with a painful bad limp. I feel i have become the town crippled old man. MY medic is giving me prolo therapy for elbow and knee. He has now stopped doing the chelation and is only doing the mayers protocol, he is ozonating my blood and he is shooting glutothion into me using the iv. I am going to get tested for this mutant gene soon because we think that i should be healing better and that the bad herxes should stop. The last herx occurred this past weekend when i broke out in a rash on my face and it was as if i was scalded with hot water. Skin puffed out, then it dried up and today it was like large scale psoriasis on all areas of my face affected. Previously, the hexes were on my forehead and on my balding scalp and now those areas are sort of scarred brown and purple against my normal white skin. A week ago, i spent 2 weeks in bed not able to move without excruciating pain from my left hip joint that was also worse than any bone breaking, and this lasted only 5 days and now is gone. Some of these herxes move around, some hang around, many are literally a pain in the butt. But it does seem that what i am experiencing with these herxes is that where there was previous bone injury like my shoulder/elbow, this is the worst area of hexes.
Because of the recent difficulty with detoxifying, my doc has perscribed me an antibiotic for a month only and he says it is for eliminating the inflamation in my joints. It is called minocycline. So far there are no bad side effects from it and i am half way through that month.
I feel overwhelmed by it all and i am having real difficulty keeping myself going with an upbeat attitude. I do not want to be complaining, limping, looking like the town drunk with red blotches on my face and scalp and having to explain my infirmaries. Life goes on and our good old canadian tax man has given me till Dec 15 to file some long outstanding returns or else they will get rough on me. To motivate myself to act on all of this is so so so so difficult. I do not know if my expressing my frustration on here has helped anyone. Sorry for taking your time with my woes. xfmlg

I noticed that all the past sports and (stupid) injuries are affected by the Lyme. They tend to hurt the worst.

xfmlg - I am Canadian too...and the cost of lyme disease is crazy - for me it's the lack of employment funds.
I don't think I could get disability...based on the fact that my diagnosis won't be recognized...I'm wondering if I could get disability based on chronic pain.
Then there's my pride...going on disability...when I look/appear fine.
Gotta suck that up, though, right?
Man, you are going through a rough time...do you have anyone to lean on? a partner...a good friend?
you are one tough guy...I should stop complaining/whining about
my situation...you are going through a lot.
Big hugs (soft ones...so they don't hurt) to you and hope you get some relief soon!

xmflg,
So sorry you're going through such a tough time. Sounds awful. Fortunately, the toe I broke falling inexplicably last Spring no longer hurts.
I do have pain in other old injured parts of my body, or areas where there was bursitis.
Are you happy with your protocol? It's good you're getting tested for MTHFR.
Girlie might have some good ideas for you.
Hope you feel better asap.

Hi Girlie: We just might be near neighbours in Canada, and it might be good to get to know you. I am in the lower mainland area of BC. We moved here from Edmonton, Alberta 8 years ago. You are so right. This lyme battle is so costly. We visited our naturapath medic and last Monday, and we see him once a week. 4 days ago, his bill to me was $700 and this included Meyers protocol, iv supplements, refilling 3 supplements for home use, prolotherapy on my knee and elbow, ozonating my blood and then ultrasounding it, and sending it back into my veins. I find that both our bills are between 2 and 3 grand every month and this is doing a quick job of sending us to the poor house. We cannot fund this disease at this rate much longer and we will have to somehow revise our battle plan a bit. Lyme seems to be endemic to this little resort village we live and on our first trip here, i got a booster shot from one of the local ticks here 10 years ago.

You are getting so much done at the same time - it would be difficult to tell what was working.
Is your Dr a ND?

He is a naturopath who does also prescribe antibiotics. I like that he is
open minded and one can discuss topics and issues as they arise. I do not know how to write up what is below the line for a message and not repeating writing it all the time. I ve also tested positive for bartonella, babesia, and internal fungal infection and we are dealing with all of these. When i did the igenix test, it came up that my immune system was almost non-existent. Also, my toxic metals, lead, mercury, and cadmium were all up there more than 10 times the maximum a person should have. xfmlg

Need Vitamin K2 (MK7 is best form) for bone mineralization. Vitamin K2 drives Calcium into the bones (vs. depositing the calcium in arteries, joints, etc., which is what can happen if one does not have enough Vitamin K2).
Vitamin D helps you absorb Calcium from the food & supplements.
Zinc, Magnesium, Boron, and other trace minerals are needed to support the bone matrix.
Protein and Essential Fatty Acids (Fish Oil) are also needed. Protein is the glue that holds the bone matrix together. Fatty acids are essential to the bone building process, also, as they help to lubricate the body and reduce inflammation. Inflammation is a bone-destroying process.
Vitamin C and avoiding dehydration are also important for bone repair.
I don't know if Prolotherapy would be helpful or not.
Homeopathic Symphytum (made from comfrey herb, also known as "knitbone") would be a great thing also, as it is indicated for fractures that won't heal.
For those with joint pain, S. H. Buhner recommends 1200mg/day Nettle Leaf (powder). It works great for my joint pain, and Buhner also says Nettles helps protect the joints from Lyme-related damage, as well as calm the cytokine storm (inflammation) triggered by herxing.
