Rickettsia & Mycoplasma without Lyme?

Hi guys,

I got my results back! I'm positive for mycoplasma and rickettsia but negative for Lyme. My doctor thinks there's a high chance the Lyme test was a false negative though.. I'm a bit confused. Is the chance of having those two co-infections without lyme high?

It is very unusual to have co-infections without Lyme. The mycoplasma and rickettsia are probably suppressing immune system so your body is not producing the antibodies to Lyme that the test is designed to detect. Or the test isn't sensitive to the strain of Lyme you have.

Sounds like your doctor has a handle on things. Great! It's good to have some sound information so that you can start effective treatment.

Thanks for your reply :) that makes sense! Yeah he explains everything really well... its just so expensive to see him thouguh :(

I agree with achievinggrace. It's possible but not probable. What kind of test was done? The "gold standard" for testing Lyme is Igenex.

Hey the tests I got were PCR tests

PCR tests are one of the more reliable ones, but not fail-safe. I would encourage you to listen to your doc and watch for Lyme symptoms to crop up - that will be diagnostic enough.
