We were unable to make it to the recommended dosages of any other Buhner's herbs without significant herxing, but are doing very well with 1/4 dosages. Each time we added a new herb we saw improvement and it didn't cause huge herxing. The only time we saw bad herxing was when I was pressing to reach the recommended dosages. I finally had to give up on that idea.
If I were you I would start at low (1/8 - 1/4 of recommended) dose with one herb for a week or so. If you are tolerating that, add the next herb at similar low dose and wait for a week or so to see if there is a herx. Then similarly add the next and so on. When you have the whole protocol going at a good low dosage, start increasing the dosage of each single herb one at a time and wait for a herx. If you have one, decrease that one herb back a little until the herx resolves. Then increase the next herb the same way.
The herbs work synergistically (that means their combined effect is greater than simply additive). Even low doses of a combination are probably more effective at addressing infection than high doses of just one or two. Julie assured me that even low doses of herbs in combination will not allow resistance to develop. Die-off will be slower and easier to handle, but die-off they will.
