Sauna buying advice please

First off this is my first post so just want to say "hey" and a brief intro.

I'm an east coast Canadian gal living with chronic Lyme for about 30 years. Not the best place to live if you have Lyme since its very difficult to find Lyme-knowledgeable docs around here.

So my doctor recommended sauna use twenty years ago and I'm just getting around to buying one now. Couldnt really afford it before now. I've narrowed it down to two. One is $300 more regularly, but is on sale making them the same price right now. So, should I get the larger one that seats two people or the smaller, one-person unit that has colour therapy lighting? It really comes down to those two options for me right now. I doubt my dh will want to join me, but I may like a bit of extra space to get comfy. What exactly is colour therapy and does it have any benefits regarding Lyme?

Saunas can be had with dry or steam heat. You don't specify which of the two you are looking into. It can make a difference for people who suffer from asthma or other pulmonary illnesses where humidity can exacerbate their symptoms.

I myself like the two person sauna but they take up more room so this may not be an option for some. There are also finishing materials to take into account. Some are very basic while others include teak wood and other amenities.

I personally would not consider the colour therapy a deciding factor. I would look for a better quality sauna that I will get to enjoy longer than the type of toys that come with it. I am old fashioned and believe in "keeping it simple".

I forgot to mention that I'm looking at Infrared saunas. I was thinking the same thing, skip the bells and whistles and get the best quality one. I just didn't know if olour therapy had any uses for
Lyme.

I just got a infrared sauna and love it. I got the 3 person with color therapy lighting. I wouldn't bother with the lighting. It's kind of cool but only used it a few times. I would go with the 2 person, you never know when you may have a guest:) Also more air and not so claustrophobic.

I'd suggest the 2 person also, so you could lay down if you want. Who knows, your husband may want to join you some day too.

My daughter and I don't perspire enough to use the one we got and we also can't tolerate the heat around our heads, so I wouldn't have bought one if I had known that. Ours also requires a dedicated plug, which we weren't told about when we bought it. I don't think that's very common, though.

i guess the size is up to you...I think the important thing is that the EMFs are low (Dr. Mercola, I think says under 3).

I agree with everything that has been said so far. In addition, I see value in color therapy since the doc that cured my daughter used it. However I am skeptical that it can be successfully performed without a trained person administering it. Instead I would consider which unit had the best nontoxic materials, low EMF, quality of construction, best heating element etc.

Indian Summer - welcome to the forum! I like your name. :-)

My husband and I did a fair bit of research on this topic. We just bought a far infrared sauna from Pro-line (a Canadian company). I think West Coast Sauna is the same company. We got the hemlock one called the Malibu and it's a two-seater. I've only used it 3 times so it's early days, but I like it so far.

I tried one out before this and I have to say the one we got is much more comfortable. You want to be able to lean back and some of them have a straight horizontal bar that goes right across your back - very uncomfortable. This one has vertical slats so it's much better. We also chose the carbon heaters. I don't have much knowledge about the lights. Still have to figure that one out.

Far infrared is the one you want for Lyme Disease. Good luck!

Thank you for all the replies. I placed my order and I got the larger model with no colour therapy. I think being able to put my feet up trumps the colours. I got a low emf, FAR, hemlock with carbon heaters so I think I got what's best for Lyme. Fingers crossed that this helps me - Our Canadian winters tend to be hardest on my health, so the timing seems right.
