Bell's Palsy Symtoms as Part of Herxing?

Has anyone experienced Bell's Palsy symptoms as part of their recovery process once on antibiotics? I've been taking Doxy for about a week and yesterday I woke up with a numb upper lip...today it is worse.

I did experience a Bell's Palsy episode about 2 years ago that lasted for a few weeks.

I am just wondering is this could be related to herxing or if I could be having an allergic reaction to the Doxy. It would seem a little weird to have an allergic reaction to the medication after taking it for a week. I hate to go off the antibiotic if I don't need to...I am finally doing something to treat my symptoms.

Just thought I'd get some thoughts out here before I call my doctor.

Look into vitamin B12 deficiency.

Here is a helpful link that talks about how Vitamin B12 is used to treat it. I was feeling my left side of my face as if I had Bell's palsy and I changed my B12 from Cyano to methyl and it is getting better in just a few days.

I have lost feeling in my face several times while I being treated.

Thanks everyone.

I was able to talk to my doctor today and he said he believes it is part of herxing. At this point I'm going to continue on with my Doxy meds and see what happens.

I have a theory that every horrible symptom you've ever had is just waiting in line to visit during a herx! At least that's how it's turning out for me.

As you can see from my signature, Bells Palsy is what cinched the Lyme Dx for me. It was so mild that neither I nor my family noticed it (!) yet the LLMD noticed asymmetry in my face and had me puff my cheeks several times. It was then that I realized the weakness I had on the left side of my face and got an explanation for the post-novacaine-type feeling I had in the lower left side of my mouth.

The Bells Palsy has improved somewhat but I've been getting transient face numbness along with cold sensations - most often on the left side of my face but sometimes other parts of my face. Just as your LLMD has said, I think these experiences are part of a herx.

Herxing is the pits. I have experienced such a huge number and variety of symptoms since starting treatment - symptoms I did not have beforehand. It's quite disconcerting but I understand why it's happening.

All I can say is what others repeatedly say on here: detox, detox, detox.
