Finally got up to 1 of each x 3/day cats claw, androdraphis, jk and Eleuthero. Oh what chronic diarrhea. Had to take Imodium. Today not taking any herbs. Should I continue, hoping that the body gets used to the herbs, or maybe go back to Cowden. Cowden did not upset my system like this. I just thought the Buhner protocol would be more effective than the Cowden after reading healing lyme book. Cannot afford to lose any more weight, down to 97 lbs again.
My fam. Dr referred me to a chronic disease Dr. Saw her yesterday. She did listen re lyme diagnosis and took copies of my tests to read. Said she thought there was something seriously wrong cuz of the numb left lip/right middle finger drooping/weight loss and difficulty walking. Ended up telling me she thought I had a hidden cancer. She has me booked for ct scans all over/mri.of head/colonoscopy and down throat to stomach also small bowell. Blood tests and to see another neurologist. All of this sounds so scary after me thinking it was the lyme. Is it Lyme? Should I be listening to all those?
I am getting so confused. I have not spoken to my LLND I have been trying to save some monies to pay for meds. We are on a pension.
I know how knowledgeable you wonderful fellow lymies are. Please please, point me in the right direction. Thankyou

Personally, if the chronic disease doc wasn't Lyme literate, I wouldn't do any of that.

I'm sorry but I don't remember your details - did you have a positive test result? If so, then I would save your money and see your LL doc - or find a new one if you don't like the one you were seeing. Many Naturopaths now will Skype with you.

As for the Buhner's creating such havoc on your system - when did you notice the diarrhea? Was it after you added in one of the tinctures? If so, which one? It may be as simple as finding an alternative to that tincture.

Be sure that you are including healthy high calorie foods - nuts, nut butters, avocados, dried fruits, any milk or dairy products that you can use.

Also be sure you are getting tons of probiotics. This could be your main issue if you aren't taking any yet.

Thankyou for the reply traveler. I tested positive thru Igenex, cd 57 18. I seemed to be fine on the cats claw and androdraphis. Think it was jk ou Eleuthero that upset me. Did not realize you can replace one herb with another. Guess I have a lot more reading to do to learn what to replace them with. So do you think this Dr was just paying me lip service by looking at my Lyme results? I will follow your advice and have a follow up with LLND.... Oh why does Christmas have to come right now......11 grandkids. Lol

Oh my!! 11 grandkids!! What a Blessing! And what a crowd! LOL! I only have 2 with a 3rd on the way and my house gets crowded!!

I would most certainly start backing down on the JK & the Eleuthero right away -but be sure to back down carefully so that you aren't slammed with symptoms.

Although Buhner says that diarrhea is a common thing with JK, so I would start there if I were you. Back your dosages down and see if it doesn't help - you may not need to replace it, but just use at a lower dosage. Buhner states that not everyone needs to be on the highest doses to be effective.

And be sure to let us know how you are doing!!

I do know a few others where jknotweed caused similar digestive issues. I think it was wise to back off all the herbs until regular BM's resume. After that I would start with the ones that you believe did NOT cause the issue like cats claw one by one. Andrographis I thought was a pretty good herb. Its major contraindication is some people have skin issues with it.

I hear you on the weight issue. I love how you say 97lbs. That was my weight too! I would highly highly recommend bone/fat broths if you do not have heart or cholesterol issues. They didn't exactly help me 'gain' weight. That didn't happen until after I was successfully treated but they DID prevent further weight loss and gradually (I think) helped me build some stamina.

Thanks so much for all your replies..going to start back on th cc and androdraphis, then introduce the Eleuthero, if all well will add the jk. I have a gut feeling it is the jk. Thanks for the alternatives traveler.
And Xmas is not at my home this year, daughter took over the cooking and shopping for me when I got sick. I can barely lift up my knife and fork or sit up at the table, my back collapses. I have to eat my dinners in an armchair. Thankfully I taught her well. Lol
Will let you know how it goes. Appreciate all the suggestions....

Yea for your daughter!!!! And yes, you did teach her well - she cares enough to step up. That's awesome!!

I love this forum for the ability to 'bounce around some ideas' when we get 'stuck'. There are so many different experiences that get expressed that surely something will click with us.

I failed to answer your question about this doc just paying you lip service - I don't know if it was that or they really are that uneducated about these infections. Unfortunately, the majority of doctors out there really have no clue. That's why any time that Lyme or other tick-borne infections could have a hand in something, you really do have to consult with a LLMD in order to have someone that can actually "see the whole picture".
