Recent lyme disease diagnosis

Three weeks ago, I took my friend to the hospital with Bells Palsy (paralysis) on the right side of the face. He was treated with antibiotics and steroids for 7 days. Fortunately the 'follow up' physician prescribed a lyme disease test which came back positive so he is now on Doxycycline for 15 days.

The Bells Palsy is much improved after three weeks though there is still some face muscle weakness. New symptoms include slight headache and neck soreness (which from on-line research seems to be classic Lyme Disease Stage 2). Next week, he'll start some physical therapy for face muscles.

Anyone experience similar symptoms? From on-line reading, above symptoms should lesson in a few weeks or months. Any recommendations/feedback appreciated.

I have had bell's palsy twice in my life in my twenties which puts it about 40 - 50 years ago. At that time, no one knew about lyme, and the docs at the time told me that this palsy comes and goes, and they do not know what causes it. Both times it went away in between 2 - 4 weeks without any medication help and i thought it was over. Only now have i been diagnosed with long term lyme and the cure that i am supposedly undergoing is no fun at all. The herxing and the crippling effect on a good number of my major joints in my body makes ordinary walking into what seems like a long lost dream at my age now 71.
