RunnerGirl—
GOOD. I'm glad you think it's clear-cut bacterial. Not that it's an easy situation, likely it's not. But at least you're not changing directions, which can be challenging.
I wish I could answer your specific question about Cipro—I just don't have enough experience with it. It's possible there are herbal alternatives—maybe someone has a suggestion.
I have developed a mantra regarding many aspects of treatment (probably like many others have), however… because there is so much doubt and "trial-and-error" in our journeys as we battle lyme & co. And that is—when I'm trying out something new, or when I start feeling worse (herxing)—detox, detox, detox. Increase the protocol (meaning add new means to detox, not so much increasing doses because you can overdo it), add to it, whatever you need to do. This is so hard to do because we're feeling horrible but we have to stay in the game and do more for ourselves.
At worst, it's not the problem. At best, it helps get all the stuff we're killing out of our bodies sooner. WHat goes IN (killer stuff) must get OUT (toxins and debris from what we're killing). THis goes for bacteria, viruses, fungus, and bad juju. ;)
And for those who have implemented a top notch detox protocol yet are feeling even worse—investigate issues you may have that prevent proper detox and methylation.
