This is a decision each of us has to make on probiotics, but I still choose to use kefir.
Milk alone has 12 - 13 grams of sugar in it naturally. The sugar/lactose (which is "milk sugar") are what the kefir 'feeds' off of to transform it into that yummy probiotic dense food.
I'm
very lactose intolerant - and sugar intolerant, by the way - it gives me horridly strong intestinal cramps, bloating and more - so I have a very large incentive to avoid it, yet I need to use kefir to keep my innerds running smoothly, especially while fighting these infections.
My current doc thought the same thing, and foolish me, I went along with her until I was about
3 months into my treatment. By then I was in trouble and was having a bunch of intestinal issues starting. I didn't ask her, I just did what I knew I needed to do and had to educate her later - did I mention she wasn't real happy about
that?
But I know what my body needs and I should have done what I knew to be right, right from the start. Lesson learned.....again.
