I've found taking 1 tsp of elderberry extract 4 times/day to be very effective at reducing the symptoms of a cold and shortening its duration.
In fact, the one time I felt like I was coming down with a cold during my Lyme treatment, doing the elderberry thing stopped it in its tracks.
The key to success with elderberry extract is to start taking it at the first sign of a cold/flu. I'd been sneezing alot a few weeks ago and started taking it.
The sneezing stopped within hours of the first dose. I never developed congestion or a runny nose.
It was clear to me that the elderberrry worked because I had to blow my nose for 3-4 days to clear out a LOT of mucus.
It even worked for my oldest son who started it about 3 days into a cold. His congestion broke up and he was back to normal in just a couple of days later.
My youngest son is still at home and was sick with colds throughout hockey season last year. I had him take 1 tsp daily during cold/flu season and, so far, so good.
There were 2 times he started to come down with a cold and taking elderberry 4 times/daily nipped it in the bud.
