So I had a appointment this week with my LLMD. After treating me with various ABX over the last 4 months For "Lyme". He has now determined that I also have Babesia, This conclusion was derived from symptoms not testing. I asked him about testing for co-infections 4 months back and he told me they are not reliable. Through my own research and chatter on this forum, that seems to be the consensus....Thoughts?

So my new protocol is Mepron, Artemisinin, and Zithromax. I had to wait for the pharmacy to order in the Mepron. So for 1 day earlier I started the Artemisinin and the Zithromax. Then the next day I received the Mepron (liquid). OMG!! within 2 hours of taking it I was Herxing like no tomorrow (I think). This seems a little soon for a Herx, But I know Babesia is a whole different animal though. The next three days have been just kicking my BUTT! Because of my reactions, I think that I can conclude that I do have Babesia.

I really have to say this Forum is amazing. My very first post 4 months back, I listed my symptoms.
The very first insightful person (cant remember there name) That replied to my thread. Said it sounds like I also have Babesia!! 4 months later my LLMD figures it out??

Please share your experiences with me on dealing with similar medications and Babesia.

Well, it sounds like you are getting the treatment you need. That's great!

You could have been herxing from the Artemisinin and the Zithro. It's hard to tell when you start them all at once like that.

Now, that mepron. It's a very good medicine but, man, that's some nasty tasting stuff. As it is supposed to be taken with fat, I would chase it with a spoonful of peanut butter or nutella for a special treat.

Hope you see some improvement soon!

"A", I should of mentioned that I was already taking the Zithromax, So it was either the Mepron or the Artemisinin causing the new nasty Herx!

We didn't know our daughter had babesia until she herxed (air hunger, sighing, chest pressure, dry cough, thigh pain) on Buhner's recommended herbal combination for it (CSA). Testing had been negative and she was asymptomatic for it - all her symptoms were bart.

Funny thing was, although she showed significant cognitive improvement with malarone, she didn't herx on it. Malarone also didn't improve her remaining bartonella symptoms like CSA has done.

It sounds like you are finally getting proper treatment; just know that if you decide to move on to herbs there are good ones for babesia.

"Patients may Herx with a single dose of Artemesia or Malarone. Frequently Mepron cannot be tolerated due to excessive Herxing. The dose of anti-Babesia therapy must be gradually ramped up based on individual tolerances. One can start with Artemesia/Artemesin or Malarone/Mepron. When the second agent is added it must be done gradually. The clinical response is that the sweating and associated symptoms increase for a period of time and then gradually wane and disappear. It works."
