When will I herx???

I'm so impatient.

It's not that I "want" to feel bad and have a herx reaction, but in a strange way, I do, because then I would know something was happening.

I just took my first dose of medication today for Bart. I only took it a few hours ago and already I'm feeling impatient that nothing is happening. My doctor has me on half dosage for 2 weeks before ramping up to the full dose...but still...

How long does it take people to feel something from Bart meds? Instantly? A few days? Weeks?

I took 300 mgs rifampin and it took 3-4 days before I herxed.

RunnerGirl, it's different for everyone. For me, herxes are usually increased pain or fatigue.

Runnergirl - I haven't been on bart antibiotics...just ones for lyme. But my herxes are all different from each other.
First one - Day 4 of doxycycline (start of my treatment) - back pain (I actually wasn't having mid/lower back pain prior to this) - it lasted 12 days, until I lowered my doxy dose.

Then after that I had one that gave me the shivers for several hours in the morning -non-stop coupled with anxiety.

I have had several that are an increase in my nerve pain and vibrations...they're the worst.

There are more...but can't remember the details without checking my notes.

Bottom line - They're " not all what they're cracked up to be."....lol. I always say...I want a herx...I need to know this med is working...and prove once again I have lyme disease... Then I herx and I'm thinking..."what was I thinking? Wanting this???"

I always herx on the 3rd day after starting something new and its usually at 2-3am in morn. Like Sarah said, its diff for everyone....mine is a flareup in body symptoms but mostly it makes me have bad anxiety and breaks me down emotionally.

Trust, patience will be learned with lyme/co's RunnerGirl...whether you had it prior to getting ill or not!

BTW, What meds are you taking to target Bart?

Thanks Orchid...I am taking Levaquin for Bart. Today was my first day and my dr has me on only half the dose for the first 2 weeks. I do know the risks associated with this med :) scary...

I have lyme so I don't know about bart but I started to feel it within the first week, def not the first day.

I started to have increased anxiety, and insomnia. I also developed drenching night sweats......which was new!

Its REALLY good that your only on the half dose starting off. This is a really good rule of thumb when starting any med though if you ask me. Well here's to the Levaquin knocking bart the h*ll out then!! ;-) I have read that there are certain supplements you can use more of to help counteract the risks of the fluoriquinoline(sp?) drugs. I dont know the specific ones off head but you could probably google and find if you arent already using some things.

Yeah, we'll see! I keep hearing all these stories of people starting medications and either having improvements or having serious herx reactions right away. The only time I herxed was the very first time I took an antibiotic...since then, whenever I've started a new med, NOTHING.

It's driving me crazy. I know I have the illness as I have a very positive result and lots of symptoms, but it's like any medication I'm put on just won't touch it or have ANY effect on me!

Consider this: the more eficiently your body detoxes, the less herxing you might feel. Makes sense to me.

I detox terrible per 23andme, this could be why I had a three month herx last year. It started after 5 days on triple ABX.

Herxed on bart herbs at 1.5 weeks, it crept up and kicked my _ _ _!

It was with "HH" tea for bart. Stomach gurgling, then way more anxiety on top of what I already had, sweats, hot/cold, it just hit me one evening after taking it, about 1.5 weeks in.
