Help! Night sweats.....

So, since I started rifampin a few months ago, I get night sweats 3-4 times a week. It always comes when I'm laying down, either on the sofa at night watching tv or when I go to bed. Even in the early morning if I lay back down after sending the kids to school, I can get hot and sweaty.

Sometimes it's completely drenching and I have to change my clothes,a and sometimes it's more sticky hot flash kind of sweat.

I've never had them before. They suspiciously came when I started meds. Now, I started mepron and they are back again. Is it a herx? Or is it just a side effect of the med? I found this list of side effects for mepron......

Less serious side effects may include:

mild nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or upset,
diarrhea, constipation;
headache;
weakness, dizziness;
muscle pain;
mild skin rash;
sweating; or
sleep problems (insomnia).

Well.....my main complaints are insomnia, and weakness. And now I have sweating to add to the list.

Why would rifampin have started this? I'll have to check side effects for rifampin too.

What does anyone make of this? It's very annoying!

Night sweats are a symptom of babesia. So I'd say it's a herx.

Ive been having the same issue with night sweats! Out of nowhere! I'm not on the same meds but I am on ceftin, tindamax, Biaxin, and planquinil. I noticed it once I added Biaxin.

Perhaps it can just come on suddenly? It's creepy for sure.

I did read somewhere that sweats can be from bart...I think it was on this forum...

I've had sweats - mostly when I'm laying down, too from the start of symptoms...and my Dr. thinks it could be the lyme and or bart messing with my temperature regulation (perhaps in the brain - I think it's the hypothalamus)....and/or lyme/bart messing with my adrenals....or a combination of both.

I tried the hormone replacement therapy initially - thinking it was peri-menopause...but it didn't help.

Night sweats can be from any infection, really.

I'm just going off this list, and the fact that when you read babs symptoms, it often says night sweats.

It's just weird that I never had it till I started that darn rifampin!

It even continued once off the rifampin. And now with mepron/biaxin, it's worse again! Yuck!

It sounds like a Babesia flare. Babs causes night sweats and sweating. Bart can make you feel hot. It is normal for new meds, especially ones that treat Babesia, to stir up the bug and cause new symptoms.

I didn't start with the night sweats until we began making good progress fighting the Babesia.

It is messy and uncomfortable, but it is a very good sign!!

Same here.... I never had night sweats until I started treating Babs.

Congratulations.... You got their attention. Now finish them off.

Don't eat meat with supper and that can decrease the hyperthermic reaction that occurs with the breakdown of nitrogen. It can help.
