When you say oral abx weren't working after 6 months (or whatever length of time) how many abx and mg were you taking?

I hear a lot that people weren't responding to orals. But I wonder if those people are talking high dosage of abx (like 3,000 mg +)?

Clarification:

I read a lot that people are on oral abx for a lengthy amount of time. When it doesn't work they go to IV

I'm trying to clarify how many mg of abx people were on and for how long before they started IV.

As an example: my doctor really eased me into treatment. I haven't noticed much difference until month 8 or 9. But I also wasn't on higher doseages until month 5 or 6. I wouldn't have wanted my doc to go with an IV after only being on 1k mg a day. If that makes sense?

The dosages aren't the same for all abx. For instance minocycline is typically 100 mg twice daily but biaxin is 500 mg twice daily.

You might not get to 3,000 mg per day - if you were taking mino and biaxin your full dose would be only 1200 mg per day.

Doxy and biaxin usual dose would give you 1400 mg daily.

Are you saying that those people who try IV should raise their oral abx dose to 3000 mg first?
