Call from county health department

There are 4 of us in the family who are lyme positive, confirmed by Igenex over the last several months. My mother received a phone call this morning from our county health dept. stating that they wanted to confirm that she tested positive for lyme. They knew her phone number and name of her LLMD who ordered the test. They also asked if she is receiving treatment.

Is this CDC protocol? I'm too wary of the politics of Bb and view this with skepticism. How did they get her phone number? Is the lab required to report positive results? My mother is glad they are keeping track of the numbers to see how prevalent this is. I'm not so sure the intent is good because the IDSA is sticking to their guns.

Thoughts?

This is not unusual!! They wish to verify that a real person belongs to those results. They know the doctors name, because the doctor who orders the tests are always on them.

Yes it's normal. I was contacted by our public health dept after I tested positive for anaplasmosis. I wasn't CDC positive for Lyme. They asked me if I was receiving treatment and what kind of treatment. They also wanted to know about my symptoms and where I possibly contracted the infection. My LLMD said they would also contact her about it since they contacted me. Apparently more and more people are testing positive in my area, so I guess they are trying to get as much information about it as they can.

It was very weird and scary when I initially answered the phone. When the department of public health is on the other end of the line your mind tends to go crazy with scenarios. I know it's surreal to get a call from them. I know I started my own thread asking something similar after they called me.
