Hi, everyone.

Happy Spring.

I am wondering if anyone else has experience with liposomal artemisinin for Babesia. I've been taking it for awhile now- twice on Sundays. about a month ago, my doctor upped me to add it on Mondays, as well. I did, and my palpitations are much worse now. (I am only taking one on Mondays, and she wants me to take 2!)

The palpitations seem worse than before treatment. I know that it could be from the artemisinin hitting something, but sometimes I wonder if it's because I also stopped antibiotics about 3 months ago. Maybe it is just the Lyme getting wild since there's no more attack on it. I switched cardiologists, and the new one can't see me until May. I don't feel like I'm having an emergency, but it is so disturbing when I get these hiccups in my heart many times a day now. I try to just stay calm, because they can also trigger bad anxiety (on top of what I already have).

I would feel better if someone told me that the artemisinin is really that strong and that it's just doing its job. I don't feel like wearing the heart monitor again, but I guess I might have to.

I pray we all get rid of these awful symptoms for good one day.

Hi binduspire. Not sure I can help with this, but thought I'd reply to bump it up to the top again, in case anyone else can help. I'm taking artesunate, which I think may be the same or similar to artemisinin? Although I do have heart palpitations, so can sympathise, I don't think in my case that it's anything to do with the artesunate as I had them before. But maybe it does increase this? Maybe someone else will know more about it and chime in? I'm always interested in artesunate/artemisinin, as I've been taking it for a long time and am never entirely sure what it does, but no one seems very familiar with it as i never seem to get many replies when I ask a question about it :-/. It may be a reaction to the drug itself. That's why I am tincturing it myself rather than buying it. Although my tincture is ready, I have not used it yet. I have more control over the tincture dose and I can start at low doses. The plant is artemisia anua or wormwood and it also treats for worms, so if you have worms in your body (we all do according to dr K), it may be killing some of those. Dr. K uses it to kill parasites/worms but he uses it in conjunction with a heavy metal detox agents because he believes that the heavy metals are stored by the parasites and are eliminated in our body when the worms/parasites die, and without a heavy metal detox, it will cause more harm than good.

So considering the complexity, I am waiting a few days until I can figure out a strong detox program for heavy metals. Otherwise, he says that the heavy metals will be redistributed in the body to places far worse than they were before.

I didn't read Buhner's book, I will look at it today if I have time, but I googled and here is what he says, responding to a question about it:

I had an allergic reaction to art once. Funny, because other than this one brand, I am find with art. But in this scenario, my body swelled and I got hives all over.

Just because a herb is typically useful, doesn't mean it will be in every individual. Listen to your bod.

Thanks for the responses. I guess with this disease, it is always hard to tell what exactly is going on. The heavy metals information is interesting. I will have to bring it up with my doctor. I'm not really thinking this was an allergic reaction, since I had been taking 2 artemisinin every Sunday for a few months, and the palpitations were not as bad. I think it might have had to do with adding the extra one on Monday, (which I skippped yesterday). I still had some palpitations today, but not anything like the other 2 days.

It is so frustrating, because I want to know what exactly causes the palpitations, especially when my cardiologist says my heart is fine.

I can't answer your question about whether the artemisinin causes the palpitations. I do have a similar situation. My heart palpitations started when I took Levaquin. It scared me. I have it on my "Do not take" list.

I just went to a cardiologist too and had testing done. What fun-I wanted to rip the holter monitor off! smhair I empathize with your situation.

I'm going to start Artemisinin this week. I hope I don't have palpitations, but I'm going to go forward with it.
