Hi Jack,
High PGE2, IL-8 and MCP1 (the 2 latter are cytokines) means, in short, that you are herxing and that inflammation is up.
Prostaglandine 2 (PGE2) is a hormone like substance that has a inflammation moderating function (amongst other functions). The substance is released as a reaction on infection or inflammation.
My highest level ever was 39, if I remember well. I know someone who' levels were in the 60's. It went remarkably down when I had to pause my treatment.
In short, cytokines regulate the immune system responses and can drive the inflammatory process. High cytokines can bring on flu-like symptoms including fever, achiness, and fatigue.
Sleep deprivation can bring up one's cytokine levels.
As for my personal experiences: I used to not listen to my body when it shouted out that I needed to rest. Then I had an accident and started to sleep a lot, stopped working, and had to temporary stop my treatment. My IL-8 level went from 60450 to 540. I couldn't believe it.
It is normal to have high PGE2 and elevated cytokines when under treatment for Lyme. Your doc will probably prescribe you Omega3, NSAID's, and maybe up your detoxing with Glutathione.
Oh, my cytokines were already out of range before starting treatment (I don't know about PGE2 because that test wasn't done back then).
These hugely out of range test results are really scary, but are sadly part of the process. You will have to take supplements and drugs to try to bring inflammation down.
I hope this helps Jack,
Marie
