Back when I thought my issues were caused by an h. Pylori infection, I used it in conjunction with Biaxin and Amoxicillan. After the 2 weeks round of prescription antibiotics, I continued on it for months. I do remember feeling a herx-type reaction (more psychologically and CNS) from the triple combination that never quite ended until I stopped the Monolaurin.
Last summer, I got a bad lung infection (that I now know was a Bartonella flare) and the Monolaurin seemed to make it worse. Perhaps it was a herx-type reaction that was occurring. I was subsequently prescribed Biaxin yet again and the flare ended.
In summary, I think Monolaurin by itself may not be enough to cause a herx reaction. But used in conjunction with other antimicrobials, it could have a synergistic effect. I have seen some allude to Monolaurin being a biofilm buster, which could explain my reaction to it with antibiotics, but I have not seen any formal studies into the matter.
I would take it slow at first, as each supplement, herb, or medication can have different results in different people.
Also, Monolaurin is best taken on an empty stomach.
Best of luck!
