Is minocyclin helpfull for lyme

I forgot to mention that my LLMD wants me take 100 mg minocyclin a day .I wonder if people here have taken it for lyme disease and what was. IS it well tolerated and helpfull

Yes, minocycline is an antibiotic for lyme disease. It is from the tetracycline class (same class as doxy)

I have read that it is easier on the stomach than doxy...but I haven't tried mino yet.

I will check the dosage...I thought it was supposed to be 100 mg twice daily...but let me check and update.

Even you are on a lower dose, it is a good idea to start off low and see how you do before going to full dose.

The usual dosage of minocycline is 100 mg twice daily (total 200 mg)

But, again, if your Dr. has started you on 100 mg daily, he might be wanting to start low, before going to full dose.


Hoping others with experience using mino will post about how they felt on it.

I'm on Mino. I started at 50mgs 2x per day and worked up to 100mgs 2x per day now. Have been on Mino and Septra for about 2 months. When I first started Mino, I got bad stomach pain and intestinal cramping and nausea. I ate plenty of food before my dose but it didn't seem to help. Within about 1.5 hours if taking Mino, the pain and discomfort started. It lasted almost 2 weeks. I was literally going to stop Mino because I thought I wasn't tolerating it or something and suddenly the pain and discomfort stopped and hasn't returned. I was able to increase the dosage with no problems and am now fine. Overall, I think The Mino/Septra combo has been helpful for me. I know other people have taken Mino with no problems at all. It's different for everyone I guess.
