Hi Aly and jenny
A few comments about
antifungals for your consideration:
Most MDs prescribe Nystin in capsule/pill form (because that's what the pharmaceutical companies market to them) but you might want to consider "pure nystatin powder" form at 1,000,000 units, which can be obtained by a compounding pharmacist. It is the raw form of Nystatin, so it is pure w/out fillers that a lot of people are sensitive to (which you are also paying for), much cheaper than the manufactured stuff and far more effective. Here's a good dosing chart:
www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Nystatin_-_how_to_take_itYou'll see that the dosing titrates up slowly because yeast/fungal die off can be significant with the release of so many toxins all at once can be overwhelming. Mainly an issue for the powder, but most of the time, the Nystatin pills aren't really strong enough to make this kind of impact (which is why I don't recommend them, given their high cost). Detoxing is as important to your treatment as meds are so you can get the stuff you're killing out of your system as efficiently as possible.
Nystatin is a local antifungal, which means it is concentrated in the digestive tract and pretty much stays there because it does not get absorbed into the mucosal lining, which is why it is a very safe anti fungal that you can take long term. Diflucan/Fluconazole, Ketoconazole are systemic antifungals and do pass through into the blood stream, and carried throughout the body to address systemic y/f overgrowth. Systemic anti fungals are very hard on your liver and heart and your LLMD should be doing labs every 4 wks to check your liver enzyme levels. Pulsing is good but you shouldn't be taking systemic antifungals for longer than a couple of months.
Spacing antifungals away from probiotics is a little bit of a controversy. I know a lot of people are told to do this but in theory, you shouldn't have to do this because the bacteria in probiotics is a natural inhibitor of the yeast you're targeting w/ the Nystatin, so both coincide amicably. In fact, Nystatin is a form of mold that is derived from the earth.
Hope this helps!
