Hi, this is my first visit, and first post, to this forum. I hope some one can give me some advice. We live in a lyme hot spot, so when my husband became ill with a fever, chills, aches and pains, flu symptoms, and a week later a very swollen and hot knee and ankle, we immediately suspected lyme disease.
He hasn't been able to walk now for more than 2 weeks with out crutches. He is in a lot of pain from the leg, and has a low grade fever than fluctuates but is almost continual for 3 weeks. He has had blood test and fluid withdrawn and tested, all negative for lyme, and bacterial infection. He's had blood clots and lymphoma ruled out. His rheumatoid markers were negative.
He has an appointment with a infectious disease specialist later this week, and we're trying to get appointment with a rheumatologist.
In the meanwhile he is suffering greatly, and missing lots of work, and it could be a long process before we get a diagnosis (or not!)
Since all the tests he's had to date take about
5 days to get results thats another 10 or more days before he will know anything, and it may still be all negative.
Also, he has just started radiation (after all this developed) for his cancer.
Is there anything we can do? Should we try to get his blood, or urine, etc, independently tested?
What tests should he have done? Is there anything we should ask or tell the specialist when we get to appointment?
We are feeling pretty desperate, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sophie
