tick bite treatment question

someone I know's kid just got a tick bite. What shold they do? their naturopath said 30 days of ammxycillan- for a 5 year old- twice a day. Will this be enough to prevent lyme?

It depends how soon the treatment was started after the bite.

Doxy is more commonly used than Amoxicillin, but I know that Amoxicillin can be used as well. Having said that, I don't really know what the protocol is for prophylaxis.

I wonder if a child that young can take Astragalus? That is a great preventative. I thought Amox. dose was 3 times a day, but that might be for adults or for actual treatment; I don't know.

I read ammox 50mg/kg /day (divided into three doses) for 28 days.

Doxy isn't recommended for children.

three times a day - as it has a very short half-life.

That's for a tick bite - no symptoms.

So, if the child weighs 30 kg. the dose is 1500 mg per day....so 500 mg X 3 daily.
