The bulls eye rash is actually considered a symptom, as it is actually a skin infection caused by the lyme bacteria.
To get your daughter tested, you can order a test kit from Igenex and then get a Dr. to sign the lab req.
Once you get the blood drawn, Fedex delivers it to the Igenex lab.
The best test is the Western Blot IgM and IgG. It used to be $210 for both, but someone recently posted that the price has gone up. (And of course the Fedex fee, and lab fee if applicable).
You should find a Lyme Literate Dr. and call for an appointment. Not all LLMD's will see children.
To find one, start a new thread titled: "Looking for LLMD for my 11 year old daughter in/near_______" and insert your city/town and State.
I don't know if the protocol is to watch and wait....in this case...since it's been two years with no symptoms, or if treatment is best. A LLMD is a specialist, and he/she will know what is best to do.
But, I can tell you this: My husband had a bulls eye rash several years ago...a classic one...but never told me (he says he did, but I certainly don't remember).
The past 5 years, he has had some health issues. He had fatigue issues, joint pain, sore feet upon waking, and sleep issues. He was put on thyroid meds, which worked for a few months and then after not so much.
He plugged along, and put up with the symptoms. He never attributed it to the bulls eye rash he had.
Then a couple years ago I started to have bizarre symptoms, and approximately a year and a half later, I tested positive for lyme disease.
He recently tested positive too.
So, in my opinion, it would have been better for my husband to treat it when he saw the bulls eye rash, as he didn't have symptoms at the time....Also, it's possible he has passed it on to me...we're not sure.
