antibiotics start and stop question

asking for a friend--- a friend of mine's child got a tick bite. Their dr said to do either 30 days of antibiotics or 30 days of herbals. Their dr said they could also stop the antibiotics halfway and finish with herbals.

Their child is 5.
They did 16 days of antibiotics plus herbs. They stopped two days ago and just continued with the herbs and plan to do the herbs another 6 weeks.

Now my friend asked me and I am not sure what the answer is-- they are second guessing their decision to stop the antibiotics, and are wondering if it will be okay to go back on them even after two or three days off, at this stage.

Will the antibiotics have some sort of resistance and the bacteria will come back stronger? Or is it better to get back on the antibiotics for the final 2 weeks and just tough it out? I guess the antibiotics are making their child kind of aggressive, and they are less so even with the two days off of them.

But they want to do the right thing.

So is it just as fine to stop the antibiotics and continue with the herbs? Or is it better to get back on the antibiotics even after stopping two or three days?

They decided to start the antibiotics again and do as close to the 30 days as their child seems to be able to handle. They took a day and a half off before starting up today and we all hope that won't create a problem--- this stuff is hard to figure out. And then they will do the herbals for a total of about 60 days.
So 30 days of amoxicillin started right away- with a day and a half off midway- and herbals ( they are doing the Hansa herbals as recommended by me) started right away for 60 days with no breaks.
Does this seem okay?
Do people treating for a consistent 30 days right away often find they are able to avoid lyme?

Dr.H says 70-80% of people will be cured if they initiate treatment in the first month, but he also says it depends if they get symptoms or not. If they start getting symptoms then treatment usually needs to be long term. It's also hard to figure out if children have these symptoms or not as they are not as good communicating their symptoms. But children are also more likely to be cured as their bodies likely haven't accumulated as many toxins in their life time, and their immune systems are younger, but often stronger as well, they also have better blood flow to their tissues as they are still growing. Most lyme doctors find it is far easier to treat children than it is adults.

Also stopping the Abx doesn't cause resistance in lyme. Lyme becomes persistant but not resistant. And the most recent study recently released suggests stopping abx actually gets the germs metabolism going again and so maybe beneficial in treatment. But there is no way for any doctor to know right now what is the best time to stop ABX and then start them again. Is it give a 5 day break? A 1 week break? We don't know... But the longest beneficial break is probably 3 weeks, after that people should resume the abx, as that is when lyme germs will start reproducing again.

They're probably fine stopping the abx for a few days, no they won't get "resistant lyme" by doing that, and so if anything, it might have been a good move. So it likely won't be a problem.

The child was on herbals when the parents stopped the pharma abx, and it was only for less than 48 hours, so things should be just fine. They will still have to watch the child for relapses, but that has nothing to do with the protocols used.

What herbals from Dr. J did you recommend? Borrelogen? Anything else?

Thank you, Kate! I was wondering since I'm taking Microbojen to help me through my oral surgery and have been so very happy to have it. I didn't know if it had a place in the "regular" Lyme treatments or not.

also ( these are close friends of mine) the tick they found was on the child's leg- maybe up to a few hours- slightly attached and not embedded or engorged. I encouraged them to treat it anyway. There was a very small bite mark on the leg- no rash- and the bite was barely visible. Now they are concerned because they are doing the whole big antibiotics on the child- and they feel that if they ever get another tick bite they don't want t give tons of antibiotics over and over--- so they would maybe try just herbals? They will mostly try to prevent tick bites, really. But they are unsure if they are doing the right thing even threating this one so aggressively. What do you guys think?
