Help! I live in Texas. I haven't been in a wooded area or tall grass. We can get chigger bites here and I got quite a few. They itch and welt. However, when I looked a one today it had a light red center with a scab and a light red ring around it. I thought of Lyme disease right away. I wasn't bitten by a tick though! confused

Other insects can carry it, but I haven't heard whether or not chiggers do. It's possible. We don't have them where I live, so hopefully someone who lives around them will have an answer for you. I'd suggest taking a picture of it as it progresses so you can show it to a doctor. Hopefully you don't have it.

what is a chigger?

Take a picture of your rash in case you need to show a Dr. what it looks like.
So, it's looking like a bulls-eye rash?

I'd be concerned because I've read that the only thing that causes a bulls eye rash is lyme disease.
So, if it's a true bulls eye - it will need treatment.

Welcome to our forum!! I'm so glad you found us!!

You'll notice that it says I edited your 1st post. The only thing I did to your post is add a title so that people would be more inclined to look at this thread and to help others find it while doing a search.

Boy, do I ever know about chiggers!!! I went out 3 nights ago - quickly - to take the dogs out to potty before bed and silly me thought I'd be okay in the middle of the summer without pants on out there!! I'm paying for it now!! Ugh. eyes

Ticks are far from the only bug that can pass on a Lyme infection.

Chiggers are actually in the same family as spiders and scorpions, and while it's not been "proven" that chiggers can pass on Lyme, spiders do, so I don't see why not chiggers too!

Take a picture of your rash and watch closely for any symptoms. If you notice any symptoms or wish to be evaluated by a Lyme literate MD, let us know and we can likely help you find one. There aren't many in your state, but there are a few!

I was in Maryland on the 4th, visiting family who live on acreage. I got 'eaten alive'-I know so dramatic right? Anyway, a couple days later, I noticed a very slight pinkish/red, silver dollar size, ring extending out from a tiny white pin-head bite of some sort...

Needless to say, NOW I truly am worried I have Lyme after visiting the east coast and walking in the woods!

I'm already on Lyme tincture, should I tell my doc about the bug bite?

I say you should let your doc know, Sweetpea - based on the idea that your doc should know what's going on.The stress of having all those bites could be enough to increase symptoms for a short period, but if you have an increase in symptoms for any real length of time, be sure to report that to them as well.

I was wondering the same thing about chiggers, strangely enough I don't even know what they look like but I have been bitten by them and it is awful.
