Girlie… right. It's exhausting and stressful at times, though, when you're already overwhelmed with all the other information and communication you're supposed to share. To also have to "manage egos" is ridiculous but a fact of life.
I had prepared to just "go with the flow" if I got resistance and then give her my own powder when we got home… but that would have also required a LOT of effort trying to talk her into taking it. But since he backed up the y/f theory almost immediately, I didn't have to. I'm glad because I'm already worn out from the week. ;)
Luckily, future generations of MDs are slowly adapting to the ever-changing world out there. By the time I die, they might be slightly more (self)educated.

Thank you for asking—she is doing a little better already. Unfortunately, she is a tough case. She is an addict (alcohol and pain killers), has many issues w/ bad discs in her back and has several other medical conditions she's battling (some are actually the result of her addictions). So, she's "sober" maybe 4 hrs of the day. And when she's sober, she's in a lot of pain and that can make a person miserable and alter their entire disposition and personality (we've all been there).
It's tough to get her to do anything and she worships the ground her PCP walks on… she also is the kind of person who is desperate to be well-liked and thinks she has a good relationship w/ her "genius" MD, but it's actually a very co-dependent relationship. When your MD doesn't know about your addictions, there's a problem…
She's also not going to be a good example for the Nystatin powder tx because there is no way on earth she is going to follow a strict candida diet or stop drinking, detox, etc. Obviously the alcohol and y/f overgrowth is a never-ending cycle. So, my hope is that maybe:
- all the Nystatin will reduce her cravings for the alcohol (which is a very real part of alcohol addiction)
- she'll start feeling OTHER relief from the Nystatin for sx she may not have realized were developing and maybe I can convince her how damaging the drinking is—or at least have part of that conversation.
- and now that I've had this very small victory, she'll listen a little more about seeking alternative tx for her back than the pain killers, and that we can ratchet back slowly from all the addiction cycles.
Sorry —you didn't ask to hear all this! It's just a very worrisome situation. Any suggestions for alternative back tx are welcome.
