Surprising my husband heard an ABC News Blurb on the radio today talking about how Lyme Disease has increased a whole bunch(he couldn't remember percentage). They are a little behind our reality but at least it's being talked about.

Yes, an article was just released and it has hit the news now - "Lyme Disease Has Surged 320% in America"

I just saw something on NBC Facebook feed too that talked about Lyme "slowly" spreading south and west from the Northeast. Sitting here with lyme in Southern Calif I can assure them it has already completed that southwest trip! But like you guys said, at least it is being talked about and being acknowledged as more prevalent than previously.

I have said before that I feel blessed to have this disease TODAY rather than even 5 years ago. For me, here where lyme is supposed to be "rare", to still have been diagnosed by 2 non-lyme literate doctors is actually kind of surprising. I mean, they came up with completely unhelpful treatment plans so we aren't all the way there yet, but it feels like baby steps in the right direction.

Good Morning America and ABC Nightly news aired the report that Time Magazine had. They are still limited it to a a dozen or so states. There are so many of us on this site that live on the West Coast. Failing to mention that leaves millions of people uneducated for what to look for, precautions to take.

It annoyed me so much I went searching through their twitter feeds to find a post to respond to. I finally found Dr Richard Besser (ex head of the CDC, ABC's head medical advisor)
I sent him this -West coast has 1000's of CDC + cases. I had bullseye, didn’t know what it meant 4 18 months. Include all USA in reporting.
He responded with this-report on areas w/ greatest rise. Lyme is in other states + ticks carry other diseases. Best to fight the bite everywhere.

I picked up my infections in Central California at the age of 7 - that was in 1970. I had Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, RMSF, Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, and more. Like JLM said - they are a bit late on their thinking that it's just now making it's way west and south.

Thank you Traveler, they left out Texas! Haha

I just had the opportunity yesterday to speak to a young man that lives about a hour west of me. He has a deer lease in a county right next to mine and traveled there rlearlier in the spring to fill his deer feeder up with feed, he said that he and his dog were the only two in his family that got out of the vehicle, he became ill short after that and you know the old story of dr after dr. Finally diagnosed with Lyme, took 6 weeks of doxy with 5 days of rocephin injections in there with minimal improvements. He farms and has a very young family.
I told him everything knew and pointed him to this forum.
Hoping he has some improvements!
It's everywhere as we already know.

Wait!? smhair what do you mean that I will fix it?? LOL!!

But that's just disgusting. If only I could get a hold of the ear (quite literally) and I would drag them into a corner and have a few words - like about 4 hours worth!!!

Most links need fixing.

You're more polite than I am. I'd grab them by another more precious part, yank until they got it right.

It's why I went to twitter and so did others. He's the ex head of the CDC and he's willing to acknowledge that Lyme and Co can be anywhere. Treat the bite. The more people who send him messages on twitter the better.

Still not knowing I contracted I have narrowed it down to having a first memorable symptom Feb 2014. And now that I know what I know I was having symptoms all last year and ignored them, I was not brought to a screeching halt until this year.
I could have contracted August of 2013 while in Michigan but no memorable illness until February 2014.
This article now includes Michigan's grown cases.
Sheesh!
